Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Treats illness and pain by inserting fine needles into acupuncture points, thus maintaining or restoring good health and well-being. Adopts a holistic view and assesses the overall health of the patient to help restore good health and treat a range of emotional and physical conditions. Provides high quality service through education and counseling, and facilitates opportunities in which patients, colleagues and the community will learn about Integrative Medicine’s unique program offerings.  

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help establish clinical standards and best practices within Integrative Medicine 
  • Perform quality acupuncture treatments and Oriental Medicine procedures on patients following prescribed techniques and protocols. 
  • Maintain and follow standard quality, safety and infection control policies and procedures. 
  • Collect medical histories and general health information from patients. 
  • Formulate, recommend and clearly communicate a treatment plan for each patient, including proper point location and needle positions, needle depth and contraindications. 
  • Consider Western medical procedures in health assessment, health care team communication, and referrals. 
  • Maintain detailed and complete records of health care plans, treatments and prognosis, and utilize EMR for all patient records. 
  • Monitor patient health progress for constant assessment of techniques and procedures needed for their optimal health. 
  • Develop relationships with targeted providers and provider groups at HFHS to develop their understanding, acceptance and utilization of acupuncture. 
  • Represent HFHS acupuncture at community and Health System events to increase awareness, visibility and patient interest.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Master’s Degree in Acupuncture, Oriental Medicine or related field 
  • Experience in individual treatment 
  • Experience in group education/teaching 
  • Previous hospital or wellness center experience. 
  • Must possess excellent communication and listening skills. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate all aspects of hospitality, professionalism, prompt and courteous service, positive demeanor in stressful situations, and attention to detail at all time. 
  • Ability to be efficient, productive, and maintain an on time schedule of appointments. 
  • Must have enthusiasm and possess excellent customer service skills. 
  • Enjoy working with people and possess a friendly personality. 
  • Must be a team player. 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Diplomate in Acupuncture or Diplomate in Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) 
  • State of MI Licensed Acupuncturist 
  • Current CPR certification (or obtain within 90 days of hire)
