Job Description
Overview of Position:
The Endoscopy Technician will work in a fast-paced procedural environment, providing direct technical and patient support during gastroenterology procedures including colonoscopies and esophagogastroduodenoscopies (EGDs). This role requires collaboration with GI providers, nursing staff, and the care team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and procedural efficiency.
Shift Hours: Mon - Fri 10:00 am - 7:00 pm | Sat 7:30 am - 4:30 pm

General Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the GI provider, nursing leadership, and/or Registered Nurse (RN), the Endoscopy Technician performs technical and patient care functions essential to all aspects of endoscopic procedures. The technician provides direct procedural support, ensures patient comfort and safety, communicates relevant clinical observations to the nursing team, and maintains compliance with infection control and equipment reprocessing standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist GI providers during colonoscopy and EGD procedures, including patient positioning, equipment management, and specimen handling
- Perform endoscopic scope cleaning and reprocessing according to Infection Control protocols and manufacturer specifications
- Monitor patient comfort and safety during procedures; communicate observations and concerns to the RN and provider
- Prepare and maintain procedural equipment, supplies, and instruments in a sterile, organized manner
- Support patient care activities including vital sign monitoring, patient education, and post-procedure comfort measures
- Maintain accurate documentation and assist with patient flow management in the endoscopy department
- Demonstrate strong teamwork and communication with all department staff to support a collaborative, efficient work environment
- Participate in ongoing orientation, training, and professional development to maintain competency and safety standards
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- BLS certification (current and valid)
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program (CAAHEP/ABHES), Surgical Technician program, or Emergency Medical Technician training
- Minimum two years of healthcare experience in a clinical or procedural setting
- Prior experience with endoscopic equipment, scope reprocessing, or instrument sterilization
- Familiarity with infection control protocols and equipment maintenance standards
