Job Description
As an Outpatient Complex Coder specializing in Interventional Radiology, you'll play a vital role in our healthcare organization by expertly reviewing, analyzing, and coding diagnostic and procedural information from patient medical records to ensure accurate reimbursement and billing. You'll leverage your deep knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, medical terminology, and coding systems to meticulously abstract critical information from medical records, building robust patient databases that directly support medical research initiatives, patient care evaluation, and strategic administrative decision-making. Your expertise ensures we maintain strict compliance with established coding guidelines, third-party reimbursement policies, and accreditation standards while optimizing reimbursement outcomes. By serving as a primary source of accurate data and information in healthcare, you'll enhance provider-patient continuity, maintain data integrity, and empower our organization to deliver exceptional patient care and make informed operational decisions.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of coding experience
- Michigan Residency
Current certification in one of the following:
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
Thorough knowledge of:
- Anatomy and physiology
- Pathophysiology and disease processes
- Medical terminology
- Pharmacology
- Coding systems and guidelines
PREFFERED:
- Specialty coding certification in Interventional Radiology
- 5+ years of coding experience
- 1-2 years of college coursework or additional education in:
- Accounting
- Business
- Healthcare Administration
- Medical Record Sciences
