Job Description

Location: Detroit

Schedule: Full-Time (40 Hours/Week), Every other weekend and holiday rotation

Shift: Variable

 

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under general supervision, this position is responsible for maintaining vigilant protection of Henry Ford Health facilities and properties, safeguarding all persons and assets against injury, loss, or compromise. The Security Police Officer - Armed must exercise sound judgment in directing visitors, patients, and employees to appropriate locations while maintaining heightened awareness of potential threats. This role demands immediate intervention to prevent, control, and resolve disturbances with authority and professionalism. The incumbent is accountable for maintaining comprehensive situational awareness, documenting all activities, events, and incidents with precision, and promptly summoning appropriate emergency or security assistance when circumstances warrant escalation.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain constant vigilance over Henry Ford Health facilities and properties to identify and mitigate security threats and risks
  • Exercise authoritative direction of visitors, patients, and employees to designated locations while assessing potential security concerns
  • Intervene decisively to prevent, control, and resolve disturbances, confrontations, and security incidents
  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of all activities, incidents, and events for compliance and investigative purposes
  • Communicate critical information to appropriate personnel and law enforcement agencies in a timely manner
  • Assess situations and summon specialized assistance, emergency services, or law enforcement as operationally necessary
  • Enforce security protocols and facility access controls with consistency and authority
  • Respond to security emergencies with appropriate tactical awareness and professional judgment

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED), required. 
  • College degree preferred. Successful completion of a psychological evaluation. 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age for Security Police Officer-Armed role. 
  • Currently employed full-time as a police officer within the State of Michigan; 
  • -OR- A separated officer from full-time service from a police department within the State of Michigan (either retired in good standing, or resigned in good standing); 
  • -OR- An out-of-state officer currently employed full-time as a police officer and who qualifies to reciprocal licensure as defined by MCOLES; 
  • -OR- Up to one year of security experience in a Security Officer role at Henry Ford Health;
  • -OR- Five plus (5+) years of complex security operations experience;
  • -OR- Four plus (4+) years of military experience w/Honorable Discharge. 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: 

  • Work requires the certification under Public Act 330 within the first year of filling this position or at the first certification class offered in the tri county area.
  • Valid, unexpired Concealed Pistol License. 
  • Maintain a valid unexpired Michigan operator’s license. • Successfully pass firearms training.
  • Must satisfactorily complete state minimum training certification requirements and required testing. 
  • Annual training and testing requirements must be maintained.
