Job Description
Successful law firm seeks an attorney to defend General Liability cases to join our Overland Park, KS office. Salary to be commensurate with experience.
Essential Job Functions:
· Gathering and reviewing medical evidence and medical records.
· Taking depositions of Plaintiffs, physicians, medical experts, and other parties.
· Conducting discovery.
· Performing legal research.
· Remaining current with developments in the law. · Drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, opinions, and other legal documents.
· Litigating cases in Circuit Courts in Missouri, District Courts in Kansas and Federal Courts.
· Represent the interests of clients at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and other proceedings.
· Communicate with claims representatives.
· Monitor loss run reports for trends and increases and alerts management to concerns.
· Assist with the investigation of accidents.
· Manage costs to reduce liability.
· Compile and submit reports required by company management.
· Coordinate and attend claims reviews.
· Negotiate settlements on behalf of the insured.
· Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Skills, and Qualifications:
· J.D. and proof of admission to the Kansas and Missouri bar.
· Candidates with an UBE score of 266 or higher from another state will be considered.
· Proven track record of 2 + years of experience general liability and civil claims defense.
· Working knowledge of legal principles and practices.
· In depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
· Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques and legal terminology.
· Microsoft Word experience required; Perfect Law legal software experience preferred.
· Firm and client confidentiality required.
