Job Description

The Legal Assistant enhances attorneys’ effectiveness by developing case information, evidence, and settlement options, tracking cases, and supporting attorneys’ hearing proceedings. This position will support multiple attorneys with the preparation of documents for the defense of worker’s compensation cases.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Keeps cases organized by establishing, organizing, and maintaining files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software.
  • Helps develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case, scheduling depositions, assisting with discovery requests and responses, requesting medical records, scheduling IMEs, preparing, and filing pleadings.
  • Enhances hearing preparations and proceedings by organizing evidence, preparing exhibits, scheduling witnesses, ensuring that witnesses are ready when needed.
  • Transcribes dictation, completes daily mailings, maintains firm calendar, and coordinates court appearances and out of town travel.
  • Accomplishes organization goals, accepts new and different requests, and explores opportunities to add value to efficiency and effectiveness of job responsibilities.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Education, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED (or equivalent) required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Paralegal certificate preferred.
  • 2+ years of Administrative Assistant experience supporting corporate or legal office in an administrative capacity.
  • Working knowledge of legal rules and procedures.
  • Microsoft Word experience required; Excel and PowerPoint experience preferred.
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and administrative skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent telephone, writing, and proofreading skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team, too independently.
  • Organization, Planning, Attention to Detail, and Dependability.
