Our client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for a Payroll Accountant to manage accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across South Africa, the United Kingdom, India, the United States, and Canada. This role is responsible for payroll operations, statutory compliance, payroll accounting, vendor coordination, and employee query resolution while maintaining a working understanding of the wider global payroll function to provide redundancy cover across all supported geographies.

What you will do:

  • Process end-to-end payroll activities across South Africa, the United Kingdom, India, the United States, and Canada.
  • Review remuneration structures, payroll inputs, timesheets, expenses, invoices, and variable earnings for payroll accuracy.
  • Submit payroll data through Sage, ADP India, DecisionHR, ADP TeamPay, and Employer of Record (EoR) partners where applicable.
  • Process leave accruals and monitor their financial impact across business units and geographies.
  • Perform payroll quality assurance checks before payroll release.
  • Rotate across multiple payroll regions to provide global payroll coverage when required.
  • Prepare and process statutory payroll submissions in accordance with local legislative requirements.
  • Monitor payroll legislation changes and ensure payroll processes remain compliant.
  • Support payroll audits and maintain strong internal payroll controls.
  • Prepare payroll journals, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and payroll-related accounting entries in accordance with IFRS.
  • Produce payroll reports and analyse payroll data to support business decision-making.
  • Coordinate with payroll vendors and Employer of Record partners to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Resolve payroll queries from employees and associates in a professional and timely manner.
  • Identify opportunities to standardise, automate, and improve payroll processes.
  • Support the development and maintenance of payroll policies, procedures, and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Higher education qualification in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or a related discipline (B.Com or equivalent preferred).
  • 3–5 years of payroll experience supporting multiple payroll cycles and employee groups.
  • Experience administering international payrolls across South Africa, the United Kingdom, India, the United States, and Canada.
  • Experience working with outsourced payroll providers and Employer of Record (EoR) arrangements.
  • Strong knowledge of international payroll legislation, statutory submissions, and remuneration structures.
  • Solid understanding of payroll accounting principles, including IFRS, payroll journals, accruals, reconciliations, and leave provisions.
  • Proficiency with Sage, ADP India, DecisionHR, ADP TeamPay, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems such as VIP, Xero, ProjectWorks integrations, and monday.com is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across global teams and time zones.
  • Ability to manage confidential payroll information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining payroll accuracy and compliance.
