HDG is currently seeking  a dynamic and experienced DON to serve as the DIRECTOR OF HEALTH SERVICES for our Client, Walker Methodist-Care Suites of Edina, MN.   

This  position includes providing overall management and operation of nursing services while providing superb leadership to the nursing staff and partnering with the administrator to help drive the overall success of the facility.

Position Overview:

Responsible for the leadership, marketing and business management of the Health Services department according to Walker Methodist’s mission, vision and values and the policies and procedures of Walker Methodist’s Home Services and state regulations.

Qualifications

Position Requirements and Specifications:


Education: Current RN license in the State of Minnesota. Current BLS Certification.
Preferred Experience: Class F - Assisted living or long-term care experience preferred.
Required Experience: Three to five years’ experience in leadership position.
A. Understanding of state regulations related to assisted living.
B. Demonstrated assessment skills.
C. Ability to respond to emergency calls promptly and demonstrate sound judgment and follow-through.
D. Organized, flexible and detail-orientated.
E. Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills.
F. Excellent customer service skills.
G. Ability to lead a team for positive outcomes for residents and staff.
H. Knowledge and experience in word/data software programs and/or ability to learn and effectively utilize computer and home services software.
I. Works collaboratively with the management team.
J. Ability to foster and adhere to Walker Methodist’s mission and values.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities –

Major Position Accountabilities:
A. Clinical: Assure high quality of care for every resident’s physical, social and emotional health by focusing on each individual’s complete wellness.
a. Provide assessment of new and existing resident’s medical conditions and functions and changes of condition.
b. Formulate a holistic plan of care individually tailored to meet the resident’s identified needs, desires and aspirations.
c. Provide appropriate nursing intervention for reported and/or observed instabilities in the resident’s medical condition or changes in the resident’s functional status.
d. Provide medically necessary treatments as ordered by the physician or nurse practitioner.
e. Receive, transcribe and complete laboratory orders. Notify the attending physician of laboratory results.
f. Develop, implement, oversee and ensure compliance with the facility’s medication systems.
g. Facilitate a verbal and written communication system for caregivers, physicians and family members to assure effective, continuous resident care and high levels of customer satisfaction.
h. Assure appropriate resident care by providing direction, supervision and active participation in areas such as: assessment, service plans, medication systems, physician orders, outside agency staff, care conferences, emergencies, delegated services, vulnerable abuse reporting, change of condition and supervision of unlicensed staff.
i. Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of each resident’s service plan.
j. Assure that Walker Methodist’s Home Services accepts and retains residents for whom it can meet the needs as agreed upon in the service plan.
B. Leadership and Management: Lead and manage the Health Services Department. Set and demonstrate the highest quality of care, customer service and commitment to Walker Methodist’s mission, vision and values.
a. Display calm, thoughtful leadership in the face of crisis, stress or challenges.
b. Develop the department, structure, processes and systems.
c. Assure adherence to policies and procedures and standards in the daily operations of the department.
d. Exhibit decisive, professional leadership in appearance, demeanor, problem-solving approaches and communications. Communications to be thoughtful, accurate and timely.
e. Assure adherence to facility dress code.

f. Plan staffing to enable exemplary service and follow through on care plans. 

Monitor safety issues and take action to correct when situation warrants.


h. Oversee the facility’s infection control program.
i. Develop and present, or delegate the completion of the performance appraisals for resident assistants, coordinators and licensed nursing staff. Assure staff is evaluated on key competencies including clinical quality of care, customer service, and respect for customers, families and colleagues.
j. Collaborate with the Corporate Human Resources department to recruit qualified individuals and execute a strategic hiring process.
k. Responsible for on-call coverage.
l. Participate and contribute to site leadership; collaborate with other managers to assure top quality and exemplary service in all departments.


C. Marketing and Sales: Work collaboratively with the Director of Housing and Director of Marketing to present and position Walker Methodist among prospects, customers, families and care providers within and outside the organization.
a. Participate effectively in the marketing and sales initiatives of the facility and other Walker Methodist entities services.
b. Embrace the marketing and sales efforts of the community and its programs to enhance competitive strength and to increase market share.
c. Maintain strong and collaborative relationships with key referral sources such as discharge planners and physicians.
d. Provide education to prospective and existing residents.
e. Lead health care program sales with particular attention to expanding billing and care levels as customer needs and wants warrant.
f. Provide timely, comprehensive assessments and admissions.
D. Business Management: Responsible for the department budget and management of revenues, costs and margin optimization.
a. Assist the Director of Housing in establishing the department annual budget.
b. Responsible for the department budget and thorough management of revenues, costs and margin optimization.
c. Provide focus on continuous improvement of financial operations of department; look for ways to increase revenues, control costs and achieve or exceed budget performance goals.
d. Focus on continuous improvement in care and service standards. Identify, celebrate and leverage areas or individuals with high performance. Develop action plans and measure progress on areas of improvement.
e. Monitor staffing levels, carefully manage overtime and use of agency staff.
f. Monitor documentation to assure that correct levels of service are being captured and billed.
g. Assure entries in electronic health record are accurate and timely.
h. Complete accurate collection and documentation for billing information.


E. Compliance: Collaborate with Corporate Quality Improvement staff and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
a. Participate in corporate-led compliance surveys.
b. Serve as the point of contact for the Health Services team during state surveys.
c. Participate in the development of the plan of correction following a state survey and assure corrections are implemented and maintained.
F. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Housing.
