He aha te tūranga - About the role: 

As a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor you'll partner with leaders and teams to create safe, healthy and sustainable workplaces. As the key HSW contact for the Ambulance Services portfolio, you will build strong relationships across operational teams, provide practical advice and guidance, support effective risk management, and drive the implementation of health, safety and wellbeing initiatives. Working closely with stakeholders, you will help build capability, influence positive safety outcomes, and ensure HSW practices are embedded into everyday operations.

This role can be located in Napier, New Plymouth or Palmerston North.

  • Act as primary HSW contact for frontline leaders, providing responsive coaching and practical guidance and ensure compliance with organisational and legislative requirements.
  • Lead and support core HSW activities including risk and hazard management, assurance, and audits.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of rehabilitation procedures, possible workplace accommodations, ACC operations, and ACC entitlements.
  • Design and deliver facilitated learning sessions, workshops and practical development opportunities across health, safety, and wellbeing topics. 
  • Maintain an understanding of psychosocial risk management, psychological health, and occupational health principles.

Qualifications

You bring sound judgement, professionalism, and integrity, cutting through complexity with a practical, solutions-focused approach. You build trust quickly, working collaboratively and influencing through clear thinking and strong relationships.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A recognised qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent qualification).
  • Demonstrated experience providing health, safety, and well-being advice (3 or more years).
  • Applies pragmatic, context-specific HSW practices across diverse operational environments with varying risk and maturity levels.
  • Supports incident investigations, risk assessments, assurance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate learning and building capability.
