Job Description

He aha te tūranga - About the role:

Making over 90,000 trips per year, the St John Health Shuttle is a koha-based community service that transports people to and from essential medical and health related appointments. The service is often used by older individuals and those experiencing barriers to transport.

Driving a St John Shuttle vehicle, you will be responsible for ensuring clients safely reach their appointments on time. This volunteer role is highly customer focused and requires a commitment to providing excellent service. You may be required to provide minimal assistance so physical fitness is important.

Where do Health Shuttles operate?

We're currently on the lookout for Health Shuttle Driver Volunteers for our Kawakawa / Bay of Islands service.

Qualifications

Ko wai koe - About you:

No prior experience is required, however there are of course some essential requirements:

  • Held a full and clean NZ Drivers Licence for at least 12 months
  • Ability to commit to one shift rostered per week or fortnight
  • Have excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Friendly, caring and compassionate, with a genuine interest in the well-being of others
  • An aptitude for diverse cultures
  • Be physically fit

Please note: all appointments are subject to satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks including, but not limited to Police checks and, for driving roles, driver checks and medical clearance.  For driving roles, you will be required to meet the St John medical standards.

For this role, we adhere to the Children's Act 2014 legislation which requires us to complete a full Police vetting. The NZ Police give us a 2-6 week turnaround time for a result, which can be the lengthiest part of our recruitment process. As this is processed by the NZ Police, we unfortunately don't have influence on the speed at which these results are returned.

In return, we will provide relevant training (including First Aid Level 1), a uniform, ongoing support, and St John membership (which gives free ambulance service for immediate family).

The best gift anyone can give is 'time'.  Come join our team of volunteers where the time they give is highly valued in their communities.
