Job Description

He aha te tūranga - About the role:  

Working in collaboration with the wider Integrated Operations Centre team, the Air Desk Manager will lead the Air Desk which operates within the Secondary Triage team, delivering air ambulance coordination and dispatch throughout Aotearoa, ensuring clinically excellent patient care advice and dispatch decisions of air resources.

This role enables Clinical Support Officers in delivering Air Desk activities aligned with national strategies. Lead, engage, and manage teams to meet stakeholder needs within resource and budget limits 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Support the maintenance of key external stakeholders - Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ), Search and Rescue (SAR), Police, Air Ambulance Operators, Surf Lifesaving NZ(SLSNZ), Coastguard, Fire and Emergency NZ (FENZ), the Defence Force, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and National Ambulance Sector Office (NASO).  
  • Liaise with air ambulance providers to ensure that agreed activation and dispatch processes are followed.  
  • Work with the IOC Manager – Secondary triage and Clinical Desk CTMs to deliver a 24/7 Clinical Hub roster and be involved in the secondary triage functions of the IOC. 
  • Work closely with the Air Desk Strategic Advisor to ensure smooth operations and effective use of resources.
  • Actively engage in new initiatives, pilots, and peer reviews to enhance the Air Desk’s service delivery and workflow within the Ambulance Communications Centre 
  • Escalate to IOC Duty Manager and IOC Manager - Secondary Triage & Air Desk areas of concern that are or might impact on performance or relationships, so that, relevant parties internally and externally including the purchasers, Air operators and hospitals can be advised or involved as required.  
  • Support systems that ensure the most appropriate resource is considered, for example: HEMS, High angle ropes specialists, specialist extrication equipment, specialist team. 

Qualifications

Ko wai koe - About you: 

  • Tertiary qualification is preferable but not essential, e.g. Health Science, Emergency Management, Applied Management.  
  • ATP of Paramedic with registered health professional status. Must hold a current APC.  
  • Experience in leading and managing a team in a clinical, operational or educational environment  
  • Proven and demonstrated experience operating within a clinical and/or operational environment.  
  • Experience in emergency services management particularly in challenging and technology driven environments.   
  • Demonstrated management and successful leadership experience preferably gained in an operational environment.
