Job Description

He aha te tūranga - About the role: 

The Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) team at Hato Hone St John is focused on improving work by building individual and organisational capability and capacity and enabling an environment for our people to thrive. The purpose of the Safety Advisor is to engage with service line partners to develop, implement, co-ordinate and promote HSW initiatives within the organisation. 

  • Build & maintain relationships of credibility with function managers, health & safety representatives and colleagues to develop a deep understanding of the operation and function of Hato Hone St John.
  • Assist in creating workplaces that comply with legislative requirements and contribute to overseeing the agreed Safety workplan.
  • Lead / participate in the implementation of safety practices / initiatives such as risk & emergency management, investigations, critical risk workshops, reporting, training and policy development.
  • Provide discussion documents and analysis / statistics on health & safety matters to support decision-making by managers.

This role supports the Ambulance Operations portfolio in the Auckland and Waikato regions and can be based from Auckland or Hamilton.

Qualifications

We are looking for strong technical skills with proven positive safety leadership and a growth mindset. Skills & experience must include

  • Significant proven experience in managing safety in a complex, dynamic risk environment.
  • Tertiary Qualification in a Safety related discipline with a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Excellent presentation, reporting and facilitation skills.
  • Experience working with progressive safety principles and how these can be applied in complex environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging with and learning from the organisational experts (the people who do the work!)
  • The ability to influence and support organisation leaders and build lasting working relationships.
