Company Description

Ko wai mātou - About us:
Hato Hone St John has been serving New Zealanders and working to save lives since 1885. As well as providing Ambulance Services, our programmes and team of over 11,000 staff and volunteers are helping to build strong, resilient communities across the motu; supporting everyone in Aotearoa to live healthier, happier and longer lives.

Job Description

Making over 65,000 trips per year, the St John Waka Ora Health Shuttle is a free or koha based community service that transports people to and from essential medical and health related appointments. The service is often used by older people, by people who are too unwell to drive a vehicle, and those who cannot access other transport options.

The Franklin Health Shuttle covers Waiuku to Pookeno, as well as neighbouring areas when required. With our mix of residential and rural residents, the Franklin service ensures everyone can access transport to and from medical and health-based appointments.

Driving a St John Shuttle vehicle, you will be responsible for ensuring clients safely reach their appointments on time. This volunteer role is highly customer focussed and whilst some clients may be physically able, others may need assistance. Therefore, in addition to having a sensitivity toward those who are unwell, being physically fit is also important in this role.

Qualifications

Ko wai koe - About you:
No prior experience is required, however there are of course some essential requirements:

  • For a Driver position: Held a full and clean NZ Drivers Licence for at least 12 months (vehicle may be a manual)
  • Have a clean police record
  • Ability to commit to one shift rostered per week or fortnight
  • Have excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Friendly, caring and compassionate, with a genuine interest in the well-being of others
  • An aptitude for diverse cultures
  • Be physically fit

Please note: all appointments are subject to satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks including, but not limited to, medical clearance and driver checks (driver roles only), and police clearance. For driving roles, you will be required to meet the St John medical standards.

In return, we will provide relevant training (including First Aid Level 1), a uniform, ongoing support, and St John membership (which gives free ambulance service for you and immediate family).

The best gift anyone can give is 'time'.  Come join our team of volunteers where the time they give is highly valued in their communities.
