Job Description

The Senior HRIS Developer is a critical role in our small but mighty HRIS & Insights team at Hato Hone St John. Reporting into the People Data & Insights Manager, the purpose of the position is to ensure that the people leaders across the organisation have access to best practice HR information in an accurate and timely manner. As subject matter expert for people systems, the focus of the role is to identify and recommend system and process improvements to support the organisation's drive to 'self-service'.

We are very much on a journey to modernise and simplify and this role would suit someone keen to branch out into new approaches and tools. We have a hands on environment and the autonomy to drive our own future development and that of the HRIS function at Hato Hone St John.

Responsibilities include

  • Develop easily accessible reporting and analysis which provides up to date and accurate data, enabling decision making and workforce planning.
  • Develop automation through the use of reporting Services features like Subscriptions, data driven subscriptions and data sets.
  • Develop innovative and practical solutions to the management, transfer and reporting of HR data with the aim of streamlining processes.
  • Provide technical analysis of all team objectives including data design, data synchronisation, and support of ad hoc projects such as software integrations and implementation.
  • Support and where necessary port legacy applications into newer technological approaches.
  • Build constructive collaborative relationships with other colleagues working with systems and data to support the management, transfer, and development of HR Data. This includes providing training and mentoring on the databases and systems that the team is responsible for.

Qualifications

With a workforce of 11,000 paid and volunteer staff, Hato Hone St John is a complex, fast-paced but also a fascinating environment. We are therefore seeking someone who has significant experience working with large data sets across multiple systems (preferably from within an HR Systems team) as well as a natural curiosity to explore and challenge process and look for trends and improvements. In addition

Required experience:

  • Advanced SQL server Analysis tools skills & Power BI
  • Advanced Database schema understanding.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Visual languages and tools including C#, Visual Basic, Advanced SQL Server, SSRS, SSIS and the DOT NET framework for developing windows applications and utilities.
  • Proven experience in Application design and development with emphasis on connecting with and integrating SQL Server databases, Sharepoint systems and external vendor WEB API connectivity.
  • Great communication skills - written and verbal to effectively liaise with HR partners on their reporting requirements.
  • Exposure to data quality standards and law. E.g. the NZ Privacy Act or GDPR.

 Preferred Experience:

  • Payglobal experience would be advantageous but familiarity with any HRIS or Payroll system is necessary.
  • Dashboard development in Power BI or alternative data tools.  The focus here is on the ability to tell a story through data, not so much the technical part which can be taught.
  • Interest or practical experience with AI, LLMs, machine learning.
