Job Description
The Harvard Mediation Program (HMP) is a student-run practice organization and clinical program under the umbrella of the Harvard Negotiation and Mediation Clinical Program. HMP is devoted to the training of HLS students and community members and the provision of mediation services to the community.
The Program Manager works collaboratively and closely with the Student Board of Directors, encouraging students to assume responsibility and gain significant leadership experience. Advising and counseling students interested in HMP and those who are already participating in it.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Harvard Negotiation and Mediation Clinical Program (HNMCP), the program manager also works collaboratively and closely with all HMP staff. This position has supervisory responsibility for the Case Coordinator and Program Assistant.
As the Program Manager you will:
- Oversee Harvard Purchasing Card, student and staff reimbursements, budget preparation and management; collection of basic training fees; and grant income.
- Manage approvals for program to conduct court-connected mediations in Massachusetts – including application of HMP’s re-approval as an ADR program of the Trial Court of MA
- Prepare and submit statistical reports to MA Trial Court and internal stakeholders
- Develop and manage the master court schedule each semester – including negotiations with sister organizations to divide court sessions equitably and oversight of mediator sign-ups.
- Oversee HMP document access, storage and retention systems – including management of Microsoft TEAMS channels, management of document archives, and website updates.
- Participate in weekly student board meetings and student leadership meetings w/ Co-Presidents to collaborate, offer guidance, trouble-shoot, etc; collaborate with individual board members in support of their roles;
- Support basic training weekends each semester, including substantive (i.e., coaching role-plays, participating in selecting/supporting training corps members) and administrative needs (i.e., reserve rooms, vet coaches for role-plays, coordinate catering, etc.);
- Interview and oversee volunteer agreements for community members;
- Organize and run monthly mentor meetings during the academic year.
- When serving as a mediator, the Program Manager should be prepared to:
- Introduce mediation to litigants;
- Co-mediate (with HMP members and newly trained members);
- Observe mediations;
- Lead mediation debriefs with mediators/and other HMP observers following each mediation session;
- Communicate with court personnel on topics including court security, case referrals, court forms, etc.
- Exercise sound judgment regarding issues that arise in court (e.g., appropriateness of a case referral).
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Three plus years of related administrative and program coordination experience.
- Mediator meeting the requirements of Mass. Supreme Judicial Court’s Uniform Rules on Dispute Resolution and associate guidelines and in compliance with the training requirement of Mass. Gen. Law ch. 233, sec. 23C.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
We are looking for people with:
- Supervisory experience
- Experience with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom, Adobe Acrobat, SFTP interface
- Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills; attention to detail
- Experience with budgeting
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of partners
Additional Information
Standard Hours/Schedule: 28 hours per week; Part-time, M-F.

Other Information:
This is a part-time position, 80% FTE equivalent to 28hrs per week and eligible for full Harvard benefits.
