Job Description

Provide proactive HR leadership strategy and services to aid development and support achievement of business objectives, ensuring delivery and calibration of common/corporate HR strategies with that of country HR service.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Manage the HR Administrator and Training and Sentinel Coordinator to ensure efficient and effective utilisation of time and resource. Set and monitor objectives.
  • Provide advice and support to managers on employee relations issues. Where necessary seek external advisory support. Direct and assist managers in executing the disciplinary or grievance processes including complex cases and chair hearing/appeals. Direct/manage external processes initiated following exhaustion of internal processes including ACAS/ET claims.
  • Liaise with managers and provide direction regarding role evaluation and organisational structure including recruitment and succession planning. Work within corporate requirements for progression of documentation and administration. Co-ordinate, lead or participate in effective recruitment processes including analysis of recruitment methods and external agency support.
  • Manage relationships, communication and negotiations with the trade union and representatives including Collective Bargaining arrangements and pay talks.
  • Oversea and liaise with the HRSS team to ensure timely execution of all administration processes for employee changes ensuring procedures are followed and documentation is issued.
  • Hold regular meetings with managers to discuss and resolve people management issues and drive performance improvements.
  • Accompany and provide appropriate professional advice and support to managers when conducting meetings with employees, including performance, discipline, redundancy, dispute resolution
  • Support managers in identifying high performers, development needs and opportunities. Liaise with the Training Department to identify appropriate training courses and learning opportunities and delivery of HR training as appropriate
  • Development and provision of reports, spreadsheets and analysis as required including provision of monthly statistics and information on headcount, employee turnover, recruitment, absence
  • Manage projects/ participate in working groups to support the business group and for the central HR team eg salary review, Tender bid Management,
  • Develop and update systems and procedures to reflect business needs or new legislation
  • Monitor compliance with procedures or company requirements and resolve or report concerns or problems
  • Development of Policies, Procedures and processes to ensure Harsco Rail compliance with Sentinel Scheme rules and related legislative and industry requirements and best practice.
  • Ensure appropriate record keeping for Sentinel compliance
  • Schedule events as required including assessment centres and training courses
  • Liaise with other departments such as Pensions, Training and Development, and Comp and Ben, Payroll, Audit on relevant matters
  • Ensure employee compliance with Health and Safety policies, procedures and practice
  • Support and promote a team culture and company values
  • Support company communications and initiatives
  • Ensure effective communication with senior management, escalating issues that arise
  • Act promptly on day to day enquiries from internal or external sources

Qualifications

Qualifications & Managerial Experience

Graduate calibre, CIPD qualified.

Experience working in a busy HR environment with evidence of providing quality advice and support. Ideally experience of working in the Rail industry. Sound knowledge of managing disciplinary and grievance matters. Previous experience of dealing with a trade union.

Able to build and maintain solid relationships with individuals at all levels, approachable with strong communication, influencing and negotiating skills. Self motivated with the ability to prioritise work and cope under pressure. Team worker, able and willing to work on own initiative.

 High level of responsiveness with good judgement. Ability to guide and coach others. Disposed to finding solutions not stating problems
