Job Description

Under the direction of the EH&S Manager, the Environmental, Health and Safety Associate will have a passion for EH&S risks for a Waste Management facility and will perform various tasks around the facility, such as site inspections, observations and running regulatory reports.

Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Conduct compliance reviews, general risk assessments and other safety assessments to support Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) management. 
  • Perform facility EH&S inspections and maintain relevant EH&S logs and documentation. 
  • Oversee Hazardous Waste Storage area and ensure regulatory agency compliance, including labeling, containment, proper disposal and documentation.
  • Assist in achieving compliance with applicable laws and regulations. 
  • Prepare applicable EH&S reports as necessary, including Tier II Stormwater DMRs and other applicable reports. 
  • Provide assistance and advice on EH&S issues and make recommendations to facility management. 
  • Participate in incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis
  • Develop Task Hazard Analysis (THA) with the facility staff
  • Assist in the development and presentation of relevant EH&S training 
  • Observe EH&S regulations, wear all required safety equipment, encourages safe working practices, corrects obvious hazards immediately or reports them to the proper personnel. 
  • Maintain positive and proactive relations with managers and employees, as well as our customers and regulatory agencies. 
  • Assist in administering and maintaining compliance programs such as LOTO, Hazard Communication, EAP, Hearing Conservation, Hot Work, Respiratory Protection, BBP, etc.
  • Comply with all company and EH&S procedures and policies.
  • Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management.

 

Qualifications

Basic Required Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1 year of experience in an Environmental, Health and Safety position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Environmental Sciences
  • 2 + years of experience in an Environmental, Health and Safety position
  • Environmental industry experience including experience with hazardous waste
  • General knowledge of compliance of Regulatory requirements (i.e. OSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • 24 or 40 HAZWOPER Certification
  • Technical writing experience

Physical and Mental Demands:

In this role, you’ll be working in both office and processing environment, indoors and out.  You’ll be in proximity to moving vehicles, electrical current, and various chemicals which will require the use of company-provided personal protective equipment (Tyvek coveralls, goggles, respirator, etc.).  You must be willing and able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds throughout the workday.
