We are seeking a Quality Director for our Columbia, SC facility. 

 

Job Description

Summary and Primary Responsibilities:
As the Director of Quality, you will be responsible for leading the quality operating system. You will drive both quality improvement and customer satisfaction across Harsco Rail’s organization. Together with your team you will develop and deploy global quality strategies that ensure world class quality performance that provides a competitive advantage for Harsco Rail. You will Lead efforts to build and sustain quality capability and capacity to deliver the short and long-term business strategies. Collaboratively with key stakeholders across the organization you will work to define and prioritize metrics, needs, investments and champion a pragmatic problem-solving approach. This role also provides support for essential programs by participating in design reviews, ensuring appropriate performance to meet expectations of the quality program deliverables, and provide representation with the product teams and manufacturing teams. You will lead the quality excellence efforts to drive innovation, product development and manufacturing advancements. You will create and implement tools, standards and processes and drive alignment as well as consistency as applicable across the all business lines. You will lead a Quality Leadership Team that includes Quality Engineers, Supplier Quality Engineers, Site Quality Management, Document Control, Quality Inspectors and Product Technicians. You will be a key leader in creating rapid change and integrating a Quality culture throughout the Harsco Rail organization.

•    Create and deploy quality systems and tools to facilitate world class quality performance. 
•    Ensure implementation of the QMS in support of achieving strategic initiatives.
•    Represent Senior Leadership with customers to review issues, provide feedback and provide permanent corrective action.
•    Facilitate quality deep dives with the leadership team to create visibility and implement corrective actions on top business and quality issues.
•    Provide strategic support to Global Commodity Managers and Supply Chain Management relative to Supplier Quality strategy as well as Quality interface, expertise and support to the operation’s suppliers and partners.
•    Support sales and service branches by resolving top quality issues in the field and improve the customers overall experience and customer loyalty.
•    Develop and implement the key organizational quality metrics and perform periodic reviews to ensure corrective action results.
•    Perform quality system reviews in accordance with defined procedures. 
•    Develop and design quality programs and training to be utilized across the business with plant leadership to prepare/present consolidated plant, customer and product status information and action plans, when required.
•    Provide direct leadership and mentoring to Quality Professionals within the business in support of customer satisfaction.
•    Partner with Plant leadership to assess, select and develop Quality functional talent throughout the organization, as well as mentor and assist in career management of these individuals.
•    Operate in a professional manner with the highest personal integrity and in accordance with Harsco Values and compliance policies. 
•    Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management.
 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Operations or Procurement/Supply Chain
•    3+ years of experience in a senior Quality Management role with responsibility for multiple manufacturing sites
•    Experience in a low volume / high mix manufacturing environment
 

Preferred Qualifications:
•    MBA or Master’s degree in Engineering
•    Experience in engineered-to-order equipment manufacturing.  Rail equipment / rolling stock experience ideal.
•    Experience designing and implementing QMS for both internal and contract manufacturing
•    Expertise in supply base quality management
•    Six Sigma Black Belt
•    Highly-developed verbal and written communication skills to work effectively across functions with all levels of staff, both internal and external
•    Ability to train and mentor others
•    Extensive knowledge of quality systems and continuous improvement tools (Lean, Six Sigma, CAPA, DFR, Phase Gate new product development & launch, etc.)
•    Knowledge of design change and document change control, process verification and validation methodologies, manufacturing process control methodologies, and servicing in an engineered-to-order manufacturing environment.
