This role sits in the Council’s Community Group, which comprises of community focused services such as Hamilton Pool, Parks and Recreation, Hamilton City Libraries and the city’s three main visitor attractions.

The Parks and Recreation team maintain and development of Hamilton’s Park network for our community. Our work ensures Hamilton is beautiful, fun, connected, and meets our community wants and needs, making our city one we’re all proud of.

Are you passionate about sports and take pride in delivering high-quality turf surfaces? We’re looking for a dedicated Sports Turf Technician to join our team and help maintain safe, professional-grade sports surfaces that support community and club-level play.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Maintain sports surfaces to a high standard, ensuring safety and playability.
  • Complete allocated work to a high standard within agreed timeframes.
  • Represent the team professionally—no public complaints is our benchmark.
  • Keep all equipment, plant, and resources clean, tidy, and in working order.
  • Support the wider parks team when required by the Team Leader.
  • Accurately complete daily timesheets, work schedules, and records.

This is a 6 month fixed term opportunity.

Qualifications

Oo puumanawa me oo wheako | Your skills and experience

  • Sports Turf Management Level 3 or 4 Certification
  • A genuine passion for club sports and turf care.
  • A current Full NZ Driver’s Licence
  • Strong commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Solid reading, writing, and numeracy skills for admin and record-keeping.
  • A proven track record of:

  • Self-awareness and a growth mindset—developing yourself and others.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and complete work schedules consistently.

Circa $28.95 per hour, dependent on skills and experience.
