Company Description

Hamilton City and Waikato District Councils have formed a publicly owned, Council-controlled Organisation (CCO) to deliver water services across Hamilton city and Waikato district. The company is called IAWAI - Flowing Waters and will take over the provision of water services from 1 July 2026. This transition will occur in stages such as the current Watercare contract for Waikato District Council transferring to the CCO on 1 July 2026.

If you are motivated by turning complexity into clarity and want to shape how a high‑profile infrastructure portfolio is understood and governed, this is a unique opportunity to lead portfolio insight at IAWAI.

As the Portfolio Reporting Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening forecasting confidence, lifting reporting integrity and helping leaders make informed decisions during a critical establishment phase, where the PMO is focused on practical, value‑adding controls rather than bureaucracy.

You will work at the centre of delivery, finance and leadership, translating data into meaningful insights that influence outcomes for communities while helping build a modern, fit‑for‑purpose PMO from the ground up.

Qualifications

Oo puumanawa me oo wheako | Your skills and experience 

  • Tertiary qualified (bachelor’s degree or above), preferably in Project Management, Finance, Engineering, Business or a related discipline.
  • At least 7 years’ experience in portfolio, programme or project environments, including significant experience in capital reporting, controls or portfolio analysis.
  • Strong understanding of capital portfolio controls, forecasting, governance and executive reporting practices.
  • Demonstrated experience translating complex delivery and financial information into concise reporting and governance insights.
  • Experience working with project/portfolio systems and improving reporting processes, preferably including PSODA or similar enterprise portfolio tools.
  • High level of analytical capability, attention to detail and ability to challenge assumptions constructively.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence across delivery, finance and leadership groups.
