He angituutanga: The opportunity 

We’re looking for a practical, hands-on technical professional to support our Facilities Technical Services Manager and help keep Hamilton City Council’s buildings running smoothly. You’ll provide day-to-day technical support across a varied portfolio of facilities, making sure buildings are safe, functional and well maintained for the people who use them.

You’ll work closely with contractors and internal teams to diagnose issues, recommend the best repair or renewal options, and help deliver facilities work programmes. This includes supporting asset management planning, renewals, budgeting, and helping scope projects so work is planned well and delivered efficiently.

If you enjoy solving building-related problems, working with a wide range of stakeholders, and helping lift standards across facilities, this is a great opportunity. You’ll play a key role in promoting best practice facilities management and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations across our facility assets.

Qualifications

Qualifications and experience:

  • Trade or tertiary qualification in building construction, facilities or asset management, programme or project management or electrical/mechanical engineering or other related qualification.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in strategic, planned or technical facilities management.
  • Strong understanding of building infrastructure and compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with contractors and service providers in to establish technical requirements needed for buildings to function.
  • Proficiency in asset management systems, excel spreadsheets and or technical documentation.
  • Experience in local government or public sector environments preferred but not essential.

Qualities and attributes:

  • Familiarity with sustainability and energy efficiency in technical operations preferred.
  • Ability to work with external providers to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and understanding of Te Ao Maaori principles in service delivery.
