Our Maintenance Delivery crews are the unsung heroes behind every running tap and flushing toilet. Working across the city, they construct, maintain, and repair the underground networks that carry our water, stormwater, and wastewater—keeping essential services running smoothly for everyone. 

This is a hands-on role that makes a real impact in your community and a chance to be part of something vital. 

On any given day you could be working on a variety of tasks which include:

  • Fixing a leak
  • Replacing/repairing a pump or minor mechanical repairs
  • Sorting out a blocked pipe
  • Attending an emergency flood/overflow
  • Maintaining a drain or pipe system 
  • Working in our open drains 
  • Working at one of our Treatment Plants or reservoirs

To support your future - We'll cover the cost of your Infrastructure Works qualifications.

Please be advised that this role will initially be positioned within Hamilton City Council. As of 1 July 2026, your role will transfer to be positioned within IAWAI – Flowing Waters, a Council Controlled Organisation. You will be kept informed with regular communications before and during the transition. 

Qualifications

  • Experience in the trade or civil industry.
  • Completed or started a trade qualification (NZ certificate in infrastructure works preferred)
  • Prepared to work in all weather conditions and physically fit.
  • Commitment to completing a NZQA qualification.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical assessment and a Ministry of Justice background check
  • Able to keep accurate records, both written and electronically.
  • Able to work unsupervised and follow instructions.
  • Able to communicate to colleagues and public in a positive manner.
  • Available to be rostered on-call afterhours.
  • Full NZ Drivers Licence (Class 2 would be an advantage)
