He angituutanga: The opportunity
As our Asset Management Lead, you’ll establish a single point of accountability for the lifecycle management of Hamilton City Council’s digital assets. This includes hardware, software, licensing, warranties, and cloud services.
You will sit within the Digital Services Asset and Commercial team and work with our Platform leaders driving service quality and embedding governance.
This role is critical to ensuring staff and customers have reliable, predictable digital services that align with HCC's digital strategy. Your work will help to ensure that digital assets are optimised, secure, and scalable to meet the evolving needs of the Council and its community.
As the Asset Management Lead, you’ll ensure HCC’s digital assets—hardware, software, cloud services, contracts, and licensing—are strategically managed across their lifecycle through:
- Lifecycle Management: Overseeing digital asset lifecycles from purchase to disposal, maintaining a centralised register, and supporting sustainability through proactive planning.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure all digital assets meet legal, regulatory, and security obligations, avoiding penalties and audit findings
- Financial Integration: Collaborate with the Commercial arm of the team on budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimisation, providing transparency across the asset portfolio.
- Lifecycle Maturity: Establish frameworks and tooling requirements that move HCC from reactive to proactive asset management
- Data & Reporting: Deliver insights on asset health, utilisation, and spend, integrating data across ITSM, ERP, and vendor systems.
- Optimisation & Strategic Value: Drive efficiencies through reuse, licensing optimisation, and shared service opportunities to reduce total cost of ownership.
- Collaboration: Work across teams to align asset decisions with technical needs, process improvements, and financial strategies.
Qualifications

- Proven experience in IT asset, licensing, and vendor management.
- Relevant degree in IT, business, or a related field.
- 5+ years in asset management, IT, or data analysis roles.
- Familiarity with ERP and ITSM systems (e.g., Infor IPS, Servicely).
- Knowledge of public sector procurement and compliance frameworks.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Proven commercial acumen and negotiation skills with demonstrable cost savings
- Understanding of ITIL, ISO 19770, and software licensing models.
- Proficiency in Power BI or equivalent tools.
- Knowledge of automated asset discovery and inventory management tools
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and strategic thinking.
- Ability to influence across teams and drive process improvement.
- Desirable: ITIL or SAM certification, public sector experience, sustainability knowledge, and experience establishing asset management frameworks.
