Job Description

Biomedical technologists are responsible for the repair, preventive maintenance and calibration of a wide range of medical devices and equipment. They perform incoming inspections and ensure medical equipment and devices comply with regulatory standards and requirements, including safety regulations and quality control measures. They provide support for clinical users to address equipment-related issues and support patient care. Biomedical technologists assist with evaluation, installation and implementation of new medical equipment, devices and technologies. They stay updated on advances in medical technology and participate in various training sessions and development activities aimed at improving existing medical equipment or developing new technologies. A Biomedical technologist is devoted to the continued improvement of patient care by effectively managing the utilization of medical technology.  

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an Accredited Biomedical Engineering Technician/Technology Program or equivalent qualifications, education or experience

  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience with medical equipment (hospital environment preferred)

  • Current member of OACETT/CMBES or eligibility for membership

  • Knowledge of electronics, medical instrumentation, troubleshooting, and recognized regulatory standards required

  • Technical knowledge of PC’s, servers, networking (including wireless & cybersecurity), and various PC based applications

  • Valid 'G' drivers license and ability to travel to all 3 hospital sites

  • Must be physically able to do the job

  • Satisfactory attendance and employment record

  • Must demonstrate commitment to ensure safety of the healthcare team, patients, and visitors

  • Excellent command of the English language (oral, written)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, courteously and tactfully with all members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Hours: Monday to Friday; Days; 7.5 hour shifts (plus on-call rotation) (subject to change based on operational requirements)
