Job Description
The Georgetown Hospital Emergency Department serves the communities of Halton, Halton Hills, and the surrounding areas. Our ED is a 15-bed unit with a separate Rapid Assessment Fast Track (RAFT) zone. We serve patients of all ages and treat patients of every medical and mental health illness. Last year we served over 39,000 patient visits.
Our 24-hour staff are comprised of nurses, physicians, physician assistants and many other team members of a robust multidisciplinary team. Our team includes a dedicated mental health and internal medicine resources to ensure comprehensive assessments of patients for timely referrals and/or admission.
As a PA, you will work in collaboration with our Senior ED physicians as part of the ED team. You will report to the supervising Senior ED physician for clinical matters, and to the Patient Care Manager of the ED for administrative matters. Your role will include but not be limited to:
- Conducting patient interviews and taking medical histories.
- Performing physical examinations and interpret findings.
- Organizing laboratory and diagnostic investigations.
- Assisting patients and involving families with the transition from Ed to the community.
- Communicating/liaise with ED physicians in regards to updates and investigations.
- Performing certain acts under the medical directives delegated to you by a physician.
- Performing other duties within your competencies as a physician assistant.
Qualifications
- Must be a PA Ontario Graduate from either McMaster or Consortium education program;
- Certified or eligible to be certified through the PACC;
- Current BCLS, ACLS, PALS certification and other training in cardiac rhythm interpretation.
- Must have demonstrated an interest in the specialty of Emergency Medicine.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in both a verbal and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
- Demonstrated competency to perform complete and appropriate clinical assessment and development of a treatment plan in accordance with medical directives
- Proven problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative medical model of care with all members of the health care team
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record
Additional Information
Hours: Monday to Sunday - Various rotating 12 hour shifts (hours subject to change based on operational needs)
Salary: $48.66 per hour - $57.80 per hour
