Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist with knowledge, skills and abilities in MSK, mental health, and/or neurology. The successful candidate will support the development, growth and day-to-day operations of the WSIB Specialty Program – an outpatient assessment and treatment program for injured workers who have sustained work related injuries and require interdisciplinary assessment, diagnostic and rehabilitation services to assist them in their return to work and function. They will work as part of an interdisciplinary team primarily within the WSIB Specialty program, although they may be required to support other clinical work as necessary. Experience with work related injuries, chronic pain, functional rehabilitation, work simulation, and return to work planning preferred. The successful candidate will require strong assessment skills and the ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team including Physiotherapists, Exercise Instructors, Surgeons, Physicians, and Social Workers. An approach including both physical and psychosocial interventions is essential. Strong communication skills in both written and verbal, teamwork and service excellence skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Occupational Therapy from a recognized institution required
  • Current Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario required with evidence of insurance coverage
  • Ability to motivate, be sympathetic, yet positive and client-centered in all interactions with patients
  • Have a thorough understanding of confidentiality and patient dignity
  • Demonstrate self-directed carry-through of patient care activities
  • Initiative, good problem solving and communication skills are necessary
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting would be an asset
  • Experience working in a private physiotherapy clinic would be an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to effectively interact with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong organizational abilities with efficient time management skills
  • Flexibility to follow direction and work collaboratively with all team members
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record required
  • Relevant experience in treating a variety of MSK/Neuro conditions in an ambulatory care setting, return to work planning, functional evaluation, work conditioning and return to work strategies an asset
  • Experience working in mental health programs preferred
  • Return to work planning experience preferred
