Description
The Therapist will provide therapeutic services to Veterans and their families by applying appropriate interventions and personalized care services including crisis intervention and conflict resolution. They will focus strongly on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), suicide, military sexual trauma, cognitive impacts of traumatic brain injury (TBI), moral injury, and transition stress/anxiety.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide therapy services to individuals, families, and groups to improve mental health
- Applies developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions regarding the complexity of given issues
- Provide advanced evaluative, preventive, therapeutic, restorative, and personal care services to clients
- Provide crisis intervention and conflict resolution assistance
- Encourage clients to discuss emotions and experiences
- Examine issues such as substance use, anger management, depression, anxiety, LGBTQ, self-image, stress, and suicide
- Utilize a holistic approach to mental health care
- Conduct intakes, develop treatment plans, and provide mental health assessments, referrals, and interventions
- Review treatment plans and assessments, as needed, throughout the duration of treatment
- Maintains client records and documents services in HMIS, per agency standards
- Build professional network within the community and collaborate with other providers
- Actively engages with the public and community partners to educate, promote and grow the Mental Health Services team
- Provide in-service training on relevant topics for co-workers as requested
- Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Skills Required
- Current active license (LCSW, LMFT, LMHC) through Indiana’s licensing agency
- Master’s Degree in Social Work
- Substance abuse credentials such as LCAC and/or MAC are preferred
- At least three years of experience providing counseling or mental health services is preferred
- Must have a valid Indiana driver’s license and be eligible for HVAF’s auto insurance at all times during employment per insurance carrier’s requirements
- Must be able to complete a background screening with an acceptable outcomes
- Willingness to be flexible and cooperative
- Working knowledge of legal guidelines stipulating psychiatric admission requirements
- Knowledge of a variety of therapeutic interventions and theoretical orientations
- Able to work independently while effectively consulting and collaborating with other treatment team members
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and through presentations
- Demonstrated strong understanding and comprehension of programs and community resources
- Demonstrated strong time management skills and ability to prioritize according to urgency and deadlines
- Comfortable treating serious mental illness and substance use
- Maintain a positive attitude and demeanor in all situations
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Maintains appropriate professional boundaries
- Possesses skills such as analytical thinking, dependability, innovation, customer focus, and high performance
- Dedication and commitment to the agency and to helping people
