Job Description

HVAF seeks a motivated, passionate self-starter to assist in all marketing and communications efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of digital marketing, social media management, storytelling, graphic design, and more while working for the largest nonprofit provider for veterans in Indiana. They will report to HVAF’s Marketing & Communications Manager within the Advancement Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with updating and maintaining HVAF’s social media presence: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok (organic and paid posts)
  • Interview and write stories on veterans HVAF serves
  • Assist with producing HVAF’s podcast
  • Edit and create videos on veterans, staff, events, etc.
  • Assist with the design of flyers, graphics, digital ads, and other marketing materials
  • Draft and distribute press releases to local media
  • Write blog posts, implementing SEO
  • Collaborate on new ideas, projects, and more for marketing and communications
  • Other marketing & communications related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of tools, platforms, and strategies for digital marketing
  • Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g. Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or English)
  • Proficiency in Wordpress, Adobe, and Canva a plus
  • An effective communicator, both written and oral
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press, community contacts, and veterans HVAF serves
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of HVAF and the veterans we serve

Additional Information

Start Date: Summer 2024 (can start sooner if available)

Hours:  At least 10 hours per week (negotiable)

Compensation: This is an unpaid/volunteer internship, that can count towards internship college credit
