Company Description
Our client is actively searching for a strong HR professional to support their people operations. The Director of People Operations is the advocate, expert, and functional leader for all systems and processes impacting Hanbury's workforce. They act in accordance with our Core Values and represent how to approach work in alignment with Hanbury’s Corporate Culture. This is a highly collaborative role that involves being a mentor, leader, and doer while keeping track of the overall strategic objectives of the role. They bleed “orange” and drive programmatic initiatives to ensure everyone understands the motto “One Hanbury.”
This position works closely with the executive leadership team, advisory councils, finance group, and people leaders to achieve their objectives. They own the processes that impact the employee lifecycle and employee-related legal compliance. This position has responsibility for managing one HR generalist direct report and an outside consultancy firm.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
People Operations Leadership (20%)
- Provide strategic and operational guidance and leadership for the firm.
- Take an active role in the monthly management team meetings.
- Participate and/or lead the planning, coordination, and facilitation of firm meetings, events, etc.
- Develop and sustain positive relationships with internal and external customers and remain active and connected in our industry.
- Develop and manage your department budgets and ensure expenses are within the established budgets and adapt spending to fluctuations in projected revenue and direct profit.
- Conduct a weekly one-to-one with each of your direct reports to ensure they are focused on their critical outcomes.
- Provide the necessary training for the People Operations Team and hold them accountable to the standards of Human Resource Professionals.
Organizational Development / Culture (40%)
- Work with firm leaders to understand People Operations department’s function and services available
- Reinfoce culture around our firm’s core values through communication and other activity initiatives.
- Develop and implement a Talent Development Strategy to achieve the firm’s growth objectives.
- Work closely with senior leadership to proactively ensure that our managers possess the required knowledge and skills of highly effective managers, and create a development plan to address any deficiencies.
- Monitor and report on employee surveys and any other organizational performance metrics, morale / engagement and goal progress.
- Work with communications to develop and promote internal communication and employer branding.
- Work collaboratively with firm leaders to establish recurring and consistent opportunities for recognition of outstanding work.
- FUTURE: Engage in the strategy of the organization by identifying key leaders and implementing effective succession planning.
Human Resources – Generalist Functions (30%)
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for the firm’s People Operations team.
- Continually update the Employee Manual, Documented Policies, Process & Procedure Guidelines as needed.
- Develop and execute an employee retention campaign, including reaching out to existing staff to assess their job satisfaction, and making existing staff aware of new opportunities.
- Take an active role in the daily People Operations, including:
- Coach and counsel managers
- Review and make recommendations for corrective action
- Manage employee termination process
- Perform exit interviews to establish turnover reasons
- Review compensation changes
- Manage performance review process
- Work closely with Executives and Finance to design compensation and rewards programs while maximizing the profitability of the business.
- Develop and execute a strategy to meet the firm’s diversity objectives.
- Coordinate the annual HR Audit to ensure legal compliance; help maintain or improve a competitive advantage; establish efficient documentation and technology practices and automation.
- Collaborating with other departments and managers to develop and implement strategies for improving employee engagement, retention, and overall organizational performance.
- Ensure compliance with legislation to provide protection against employment claims, create a framework for consistent treatment of staff and coach management to make decisions that are consistent, uniform and predictable.
- Working with Finance, conduct an annual market review/comparison of employee benefits programs (including offering and competitiveness) and make recommendations to Executive Team for firm benefit modifications.
Other Duties (10%)
- Deliver training within the scope of expertise.
- Be an active, participating member of all assigned advisory councils, committees and groups.
- Other related duties, as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or another related field.
- SHRM-SCP certification
- 7+ years of experience in Human Resource roles within growth phase companies
- 3+ years leading the Human Resource function, reporting to a Chief Executive Leader.
- Ability to navigate the organization to ensure buy-in and timely decision-making.
- Proven track record of building a department while acting tactically to get the work done.
- Mental agility and adaptability, able to accept and incorporate feedback from others rapidly to improve, create, and develop to achieve better results.
- Diplomacy in decision-making with an ability to correctly gauge when and how to say “no” while being open to new ideas.
- Strong understanding of digital marketing principles and best practices.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong project management skills.

Relocation benefits and travel expenses are available for the right candidate.
Candidates must be able to work onsite at one of the Hanbury core offices, including: Baltimore, MD; Norfolk, VA or Raleigh, NC. This position will require travel to other sites for up to 25% of the time.
