Company Description
As a Corporate Tax Accountant within H&M’s Finance & Accounting department in Mexico, you will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with Mexican federal, state, and local tax regulations, with a primary focus on VAT and corporate income tax for all Mexican legal entities and registrations. This is a hands-on, operational role that requires deep knowledge of Mexican tax law, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to compliance and reporting.
You will play a key role in preparing, reviewing, and submitting various tax filings in accordance with Mexican tax regulations. Your responsibilities will also include ensuring that all local tax and VAT processes are fully compliant with H&M Group’s wider global tax policies and international objectives.
Although the role is primarily focused on Mexico, and reports to the Accounting Manager for MX-CO-EC you will collaborate very closely in your day to day with the Global Indirect Tax Lead and Global team, to maintain alignment between local practices and group-wide standards. This cross-functional cooperation ensures consistency, transparency, and efficiency across all H&Ms jurisdictions.
This hybrid role reports into our Accounting Manager for MX-CO-EC and is based out of Mexico City Support Office.
Job Description
Working at H&M means no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will include the following responsibilities*:
- Preparation, reconciliation and submission of monthly VAT returns.
- Maintain compliance with CFDI e-invoicing, VAT and WHT regulations.
- Monitor VAT payment, retention and refund processes.
- Prepare, review and file corporate income tax filings.
- Prepare Tax reporting for group (IFRS) consolidation reporting purposes
- Ensure accurate Tax calculation and timely payment of CIT, WHT, and other applicable taxes.
- Support tax audits and liaise with external advisors and SAT as needed.
- Conduct deep analysis of financial data sets, identify opportunities for compliant and digital solutions
- Support Global tax team with data analysis and preparation of intercompany transactions for transfer pricing documentation
- Monitor local Tax and VAT regulatory changes from SAT
- Communicate requirements for relevant Tax and VAT updates to both local as well as global stakeholders, ensure solutions and processes can be adhered to for timely implementations
- Work Cross-functional with Global tax, Finance, Legal, and Operations teams to ensure Tax and VAT compliance across the supply chain and accounting processes.
- Collaborate with local and global stakeholders to optimize Tax and VAT processes, including the implementation, testing, and training of new procedures of tax automation tools and ERP enhancements (SAP) to ensure effective local adoption.
- Identify opportunities to streamline tax processes and improve data accuracy using Power BI and Excel.
Qualifications
Who You Are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in Mexican indirect and direct tax compliance, preferably in a multinational or Big Four environment
- Strong understanding of Mexican VAT, CIT WHT, and digital tax reporting obligations
- Proficient in SAP, Power BI, and Excel
- Fluent in Spanish and English, both written and spoken
- Experience with transfer pricing and South American tax jurisdictions is a plus
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex tax data
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to translate tax requirements into business-friendly guidance
