    About the Role

    As a Corporate Tax Accountant in the Finance and Accounting department, your main focus will be the responsibility for all aspects of federal, state & local management of Tax & VAT compliance and Tax & VAT reporting processes in Mexico for all Mexican entities. You will play a key role in ensuring adherence to both local and international tax laws, transfer pricing policies, and practices.

    This position requires a comprehensive understanding of Tax & VAT regulations, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work with complex data sets to ensure accurate and timely compliance. In this role you will be collaborating closely with the Global Indirect tax lead, focusing on compliance and value generation in relation to indirect taxes in Mexico, with potentially involvement in other South American jurisdictions. As a key contributor, you will ensure that our business not only meets local regulatory standards but also aligns with global tax strategies to enhance overall business performance.

    This hybrid role reports into our Accounting Manager for MX-CO-EC and is based out of Mexico City Support Office.

    • Conduct deep dives into financial data to assess, refine, and maintain VAT compliance across the entire supply chain and accounting processes
    • Oversee the accurate preparation, submission, and reconciliation of VAT returns, ensuring all filings meet local regulatory requirements and deadlines
    • Perform comprehensive research on local VAT regulations, ensuring these requirements are clearly communicated to both Central and Local teams for consistent compliance
    • Collaborate with various stakeholders to optimize VAT-related processes, identifying and implementing new solutions that enhance efficiency and compliance
    • Lead the implementation, testing, and training phases for new VAT processes within the region, ensuring all teams are equipped to handle the new procedures effectively
    • Regularly review and analyze VAT filings to ensure ongoing compliance, promptly addressing any discrepancies or issues that arise
    • Ensure accurate management and analysis of complex data sets to support VAT compliance, reporting, and decision-making processes
    • Work closely with various departments to align VAT processes with broader business strategies, ensuring that compliance efforts support overall business goals
    • Performs and updates transfer pricing studies to establish benchmark profitability levels
    • Partners with individuals both within and outside tax to achieve corporate objectives with a transfer pricing impact
    • Ensures staff is well informed, keeps up with changes in tax laws and interpretations and continues professional education
    • Oversees the sales and use tax responsibilities of the Company including the preparation, calculation, review, and payment of income tax liabilities and returns
    • Researches, analyzes, and effectively resolves complex tax issues
    • May perform other activities related to the position

       

      Qualifications

      And people who have...

      • Strong background in finance or accounting. A university degree in a relevant field is a plus
      • At least 5 years of experience focusing on Indirect tax/VAT / Income taxes, particularly within the Mexican market and transference prices knowledge
      • Proficiency with ERP systems, particularly SAP
      • Fluent in both Spanish and English
      • Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as PowerBI and Excel
      • Basic knowledge of Mexican corporate income tax is a plus but not required
      • Prior work experience in a Retail company preferred or Big Accounting - Fiscal  firm  as Deloitte, KPMG, E&Y
      • Robust knowledge of Income Taxes &VAT, Withholding Tax and other indirect tax regulations specific to Mexico, with additional knowledge of South American tax laws highly preferred
      • Proven problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented and organized approach to tasks
      • Experience managing projects and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
      • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within diverse teams
      • Ability to succinctly communicate in writing, effectively interact, and explain complex tax issues in straightforward language to business and finance senior management
