About the Role:

The Senior Bioinformatics Scientist will join an interdisciplinary team working with an unprecedented set of clinical DNA whole genome and exome sequence data and multiple epigenetic data types produced by novel R&D pipelines at Guardant Health. The scope of this project provides unique opportunities for developing and learning novel analytical methods for DNA sequencing data, including cell free DNA-based transcript expression and methylation data integrated with epigenetic data sets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work with large, complex data sets. Tend to non-routine analysis problems, applying deep epigenetic knowlege to conduct end-to-end analysis of epigenetic cell free nucleic acid NGS data.
• Communicates research results through presentations and project reports as well as scientific publications.
• Systematically leverages external innovation ideas and expertise to address technology gaps and advance the Guardant Health’s business.
• Supervise, mentor and/or train other scientists and engineers to support research activities
• Provide analytic support on individual samples and research activities.
• Provide analytic support to CLIA and CAP regulated clinical operations.
• Explore genomic data from clinical patients and external annotation sources to enhance quality of reporting.
• Develop scripts for research and development activities.

• Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, Biological Sciences, Cancer Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Computer Science
• 3+ years of experience
• Proven scientific reputation as demonstrated by scientific publication and/or contribution to sucessfull product development in biotech industry.
• Deep understanding of modern tools and pipelines in genomics for processing and analysis of primary data, including somatic and structural variant calling.
• Experience with next generation sequencing data analysis (DNA, RNA, or epigenetic analysis).
• Deep experience with a statistical programming language (e.g., R).
• Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.

Work Environment:

• Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. 
• Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. 
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

Hybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We have found aligning our scheduled in-office days allows our teams to do the best work and creates the focused thinking time our innovative work requires. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $102,000 to $163,200. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries across all US locations for the posted role with the exception of any locations specifically referenced below (if any).

For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $136,000 to $183,600. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.

Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.
