Job Description

As Guardant continues to grow, we are looking for a Staff Software Engineer in Test to join and contribute  to developing test automation for our IVD grade software solution that performs a cancer screening tests.

Our software stack includes React based UI components, sample prep control and automation, analytics, and microservices architecture running over Kubernetes.

Responsibilities:

  • Use your skills and expertise to design and develop test automation on a collection of microservices using syncronious (REST API), web and asynchronous (Message Broker) messages.
  • Optimize, enhance, maintain and review the automation framework and test suites, drive test efficiency improvements, automate complex testing scenarios.
  • Develop/Enhance and maintain the continuous integration build and deploy pipeline with Jenkins, Docker and Kubernetes
  • Analyze user needs, product requirements, software requirements and specification to define test cases that verify the behavior of the software.
  • Define test cases for newly developed functionalities, modules, and services. Build a hierarchical testing from functions to modules, services and full integration. Utilize techniques of black box, white box, horizontal, vertical, inspection and analysis to build verification and validation plan.
  • Troubleshoot and debug across services, system integration issues related to interfaces between components and real time throughput.
  • Estimate/characterize system performance, bottlenecks, identify failure points and optimize the system based on product owner’s needs.
  • Write verification test cases, verification protocols, summarize reports. Present outcomes to the leadership team. Actively manage defects prioritization and backlog.
  • Lead QE efforts, communicates issues and risks and mentor junior QE
  • Report on the test execution status, collaborate and maintain strong working relationships across functional teams

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Computational Biology, or related field. Equivalent industry experience accepted
  • 10+ years experience developing test automation for full stack software in production environment. Solid experience with microservice architecture using synchronous REST API as well as asynchronous message brokers.
  • Experience working in a scrum based environment using JIRA and Confluence
  • Experience writing integration testing scripts, including simulation and staging of data.
  • Experienced in Python programming, Linux Bash, Relational databases, Cypress Framework or similar.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of test automation methodologies and best practices
  • Experience with deployment tools, build/release automation, Kubernetes, Docker and continuous integration/delivery
  • Self-starter, proactive and flexible
