Job Description

To enable Guardant Health to lead the disruption of cancer treatments through non-invasive cancer screening, Guardant Health Security team is seeking a highly motivated Summer Intern – Security Engineer to help develop, test, and improve security technologies at Guardant Health.

As a Summer Intern – Security Engineer will be supporting various security technologies deployed at Guardant Health, you will work with members of the Security Operations team and interface with multiple cross functional teams including engineering, IT operations, and compliance. You will be hands on in developing, integrating and enhancing new and/or existing technologies designed to secure Guardant Health’s environment and sensitive data.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform basic software development practices such as writing code to integrate multiple technologies, automate manual processes, and develop deployment scripts for existing technologies.
  • Participate in Proof of Concepts of new technologies currently in development.
  • Work under supervision of the Security Operations team at Guardant Health.
  • Bring a can-do attitude to solve new and challenging problems in a high pace environment.
  • Be able to present updates orally, write reports and standard operating procedures, and participate in technical discussions.

Qualifications

  • Completed Coursework in computer science, cyber security or information technology is preferred.
  • Previous experience writing software in any modern framework (Python, Java, C++) is required.
  • Professional hands-on experience in cyber security is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience in AWS or another IaaS is a plus.
  • Local candidates in San Francisco Bay area are a plus.

Education:  

Students pursuing or recently completing BS/MS in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology or related field. Juniors and Graduating seniors strongly encouraged to apply.

Physical Requirements

  • Employee may frequently exert up to 20-50 pounds of force to push or lift equipment
  • This position requires standing/walking/crawling regularly

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment.  Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment.  Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
