Job Description

Position Summary:

To support Guardant Health’s leadership in disruption of cancer treatments, we are looking for an experienced leader for our Software Quality Engineering teams. The role will involve cross-functional engagement within a dynamic business environment and be critical for our software product development and delivery.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Management of distributed software quality teams across multiple technology stacks, both on-premise and cloud-based
  • Develop strategies, estimates and project plans at portfolio/program level as well as oversight down to individual sprints, for frequent release cycles
  • Identification of risks with mitigation plans, negotiating with stakeholders as required
  • Prioritization of initiatives to meet business objectives, and translation into team deliverables with resource allocations
  • Develop vision for evolution of SQE function through implementation of best practices, including tools and frameworks, and create a culture of continuous improvement, harmonized with other co-owners of our SDLC
  • Work with SQE team leaders to develop bench strength to support company growth while maintaining agility
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Guardant Health to ensure timely and robust execution of testing as part of agreed release schedules
  • Partnering with multiple development teams and associated disciplines, including product management, scrum-masters, business analysts and project managers
  • Review and approval of validation protocols and summary reports, assessed against business requirements and/or functional specifications
  • Represent software quality in multiple forums, including with external auditors
  • Understanding of our products and establishing quality thresholds to maintain integrity of data and reported results for the benefit of our patients
  • Managing through metrics – sharing key performance data with stakeholders to explain test cases, defects, team productivity, code quality, automation

Management of vendors for supply of tools, outsourced services and solutions

Qualifications

  • 8-10+ years managing software quality teams, including definition of policies and quality improvement plans
  • 5+ years of hands-on software testing experience, working across stakeholder groups, including multiple test types: functional, regression, integration, smoke, multi-system, UAT, usability, verification, including performance testing under load using test data
  • Healthcare background, preferably including bioinformatics, ideally with genomic sequencing data and/or diagnostic laboratory experience
  • Experience of working within a regulated healthcare environment (familiar with CLIA, HIPAA, SOX, and FDA) and thorough understanding of QMS purpose and usage
  • Comfortable with hybrid on-prem & cloud (AWS) environments, with multiple user device formats and browser types
  • Experience of contemporary approaches such as TDD/BDD to embed SQE earlier within the SDLC, as well as continuous agile processes such as CI/CD
  • Good knowledge of programming and scripting languages such as Java, C#, Ruby, Python, javascript and Unix shell, with some prior hands-on experience
  • Prior experience with automation tools, preferably Selenium, and management of automation processes and frameworks
  • Experience of secure coding practices and security testing
  • Familiar with code management and deployment tools, eg Atlassian suite, Jenkins, Git, as well as commonly used IDEs and DevOps toolchains
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and people skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • B.S or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related study or equivalent project experience, formal QA certifications

Work Environment:

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment.  Majority

of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment.  Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
