Job Description

Guardant Health is developing NGS (next generation Sequencing) diagnostics and screening tests for Cancer. The successful Senior Bioinformatics Systems Software Engineer candidate will join an interdisciplinary team developing high throughput screening application for early cancer detection. The software includes components for sample prep and liquid handling automation, test, sample and user management as well Guardant Health developed analytics and reporting component.

 

This individual will work with bioinformatics software engineers, bioinformatics scientists, assay developers, software engineers, UX designers, automation engineers and project leaders to ensure the quality of bioinformatics software used in CLIA, CAP, NYDOH, and FDA regulated environments and the correct installation on production systems.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

●      Analyze use cases, requirements and engineering design, define test plans/strategy, and develop automated test cases that ensure the quality of bioinformatics software used in CLIA, CAP, NYDOH, and FDA regulated environments.

●      Work with cross-functional team members to clarify requirements, remove ambiguities, and create comprehensive, and strategic verification plans for bioinformatics software leading to successful implementation and timely project completion.

●      Work with the algorithm development team to understand functional specifications, identify and design test cases for next-generation sequencing analysis software.

●      Work with software engineers, and support integration and regression testing of bioinformatics software.

●      Design, create, enhance, and maintain bioinformatics data simulators and automated testing framework to ensure excellent testing coverage.

●      Provide written documentation and specifications of software products and services.

●      Provide coaching to other team members for designing test strategies and test cases with strong knowledge of molecular biology, oncology and bioinformatics.

●      Report, track, and escalate anomalies discovered during testing (All testing phases) and ensure closure on issues.

Qualifications

●      M.S or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, or related field. Equivalent industry experience accepted.

●      3+ years of experience in verifying or developing algorithms, workflow or data analysis software.

●      Strong understanding of sequencing data and standard bioinformatics tools such as samtools, picard, snpEff.

●      3+ years of hands-on testing experience, in Python (pytest), Robot Framework, Cypress/Selenium, UFT (Formerly QTP), Telerik, Postman, SOAPUI, Fiddler, and/or Firebug and/or similar test framework.

●      2+ years hands on knowledge of docker applications and CI tools such as Jenkins. Proficient in Linux base environment and Bash scripting.

●      Excellent organizational and people skills with the ability to work across functions to ensure successful integration testing.

●      Knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, and genomics is preferred

●      Experience working in a regulated environment (CLIA, CAP, NYDOH, and FDA).

●      Strong Understating of NGS error modalities

●      Hands-on knowledge of RDBMS (PostgreSQL is preferred)

Work Environment:

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment.  Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment.  Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
