Job Description

Position Summary:

The Field Application Scientist (FAS) will be responsible for providing technical support to external customers using Guardant Health’s digital sequencing technology. In addition, this role will support product development and externalization efforts for different Guardant Health technologies. The FAE candidate will be responsible for offsite support, installing equipment and troubleshooting of processes including nucleic acid extraction methods, custom library preparation, enrichment, nucleic acid quantification technologies and NGS workflows. The candidate should be experienced with liquid-handlers (e.g. Hamilton, Agilent). Previous experience in a regulated environment (CLIA, CAP and FDA desirable), with commensurate strong documentation and communication skills is highly desirable.     

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform Performance Qualification (PQ), Process Verification and Validation as necessary on new customer installations.
  • Work with internal teams to support assay design and conduct experiments to test assay performance
  • Perform troubleshooting and/or root cause analysis of potential issues with Guardant Health’s cfDNA workflow(s) and maintain ownership through resolution.
  • Triage system issues and work with 3rdparty vendors as required.
  • Provide end-to-end training for Guardant Health’s sample preparation workflow(s).
  • Develop training and troubleshooting material for support workflow(s).
  • Work with Quality Assurance to ensure all documentation is accurately completed per regulatory requirements.
  • Gather, propose and champion process improvements to support external system performance.
  • Develop processes which support our ongoing effort to provide market-leading technical support and customer support organization.
  • Travel to satellite sites up to 50% of the time 

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of applicable experience in a molecular biology/biochemistry related field (industry or academic)
  • 1.5+ years of technical customer support 
  • Hands on experience running and troubleshooting cfDNA and/or NGS assay applications
  • Experience operating Liquid Handlers, Sequencers, and nucleic acid quantification instruments
  • Experience supporting clinical laboratories and knowledge of programming language like R, Python is a plus.
  • Customer service experience including ability to effectively represent customer requirements internally
  • Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems with minimal direction and make decisions with confidence
  • Ability to successfully balance and prioritize multiple ongoing projects/tasks 
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
