Job Description

We are seeking a reliable, safety-conscious Painter / Shipper / Receiver. In this multifaceted role, you will handle paint shop, shipping, receiving crane operations, and industrial coating procedures to ensure all products meet customer specifications, quality benchmarks, and safety objectives. The ideal candidate is hardworking, physically fit, and committed to maintaining a high standard of safety in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Crane and painting duties:
    • Operate overhead cranes to dip bundles of joists in paint tanks.
    • Operate overhead cranes to load joists onto trailers.
    • Perform hand painting or touch-ups to ensure complete paint coverage on products.
    • Replenish paint levels in dip tanks.
    • Read and interpret finishing requirements from blueprints.
    • Secure loads of joists on trailers/buggies.
    • Execute daily cleaning and maintenance of the area and finishing equipment.
    • Practice good housekeeping, including 5S requirements, and time management in the performance of daily duties.
       
  • Shipping and receiving duties:
    • Stack, secure, load, and unload materials in designated storage areas, staging areas, or transportation vehicles.
    • Accept inbound items by verifying item details and contract specifications.
    • Tag loads properly for shipment.
    • Safely operate forklifts (including Combi lifts and trucks), overhead cranes, or other rigging/hoisting equipment for material transport.
    • Inspect cranes and rigging equipment for defective parts and immediately report defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Quality, safety and environmental:
    • Advise workplace parties of quality issues/concerns as identified.
    • Comply with all legislated and company Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality, and Lean policies, procedures, programs, and Canam safety standards.
    • Comply with Globally Harmonized System (GHS), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), hazardous waste labeling, and execute proper spill response procedures.
    • Properly handle and dispose of coating materials, cleaning supplies, trash, and scrap metal.
    • Maintain a positive, professional work atmosphere by communicating effectively with co-workers, supervisors, clients, and customers.
    • Perform all other job duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 2 to 3 years of related experience (preferred) in industrial coating/finishing, industrial shipping/receiving, or structural steel operations.
  • Equipment ability: Ability to operate overhead cranes, forklifts (including Combi lifts and trucks), and rigging/hoisting equipment; relevant certifications are an asset.
  • Technical skills: Ability to read job requisitions, shop orders, and finishing blueprints.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Respirator medical eligibility: Must meet medical eligibility requirements to wear a tight-fit respirator and/or supplied air hood as determined by a licensed healthcare professional.
  • Attributes:
    • Proficient English speaking, reading, and writing skills.
    • Ability to work independently without direct supervision as well as collaboratively within a team.
    • Willingness to work overtime as requested to meet customer needs.
    • Strong work ethic, punctuality, reliability, maturity, and customer service skills.

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Safety-Sensitive Position: This is a safety-sensitive position where employee responsibilities directly impact the health and safety of themselves, co-workers, and product end-users.

Physical Demands: Requires continuous standing, extensive walking, climbing (ladders and stairs onto trailers as necessary to secure product), stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and handling tools/materials. Routinely required to lift to 50–60 lbs (32 kg). Must be physically able to perform duties while wearing required respiratory equipment. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment

Work Environment: Exposure to a busy steel fabrication shop and outdoor yard environment with varying weather, high noise levels, dust, dirt, vibration, moving mechanical parts, fumes, vapors, and extreme seasonal temperatures. Occasional work in high/precarious places or near risk of electrical shock.
 

This position requires you to work bi-weekly rotating day/evening shifts.
