SECOND SHIFT

Competitive Shift Differential

Ensure that all products receive a uniform and complete finish as specified by the customer’s contract specifications; perform such work consistent with corporate mission and values and department financial objectives. 

Essential Functions:

  • Read finishing requirements from blueprints
  • Apply various types of coatings (paint, zinc, etc.) in accordance with customer specifications
  • Wear a respirator and/or supplied air hood
  • Use rigging/hoisting equipment and/or forklift to move material into position for finishing and/or transport
  • Inspect cranes/rigging equipment for defective parts and notify supervisor of defects or malfunctions
  • Tag load for shipment
  • Produce a product that meets recognized standards and customer expectations by maintaining quality procedures
  • Comply with Global Harmonized System (GHS), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and hazardous waste labeling requirements
  • Execute proper spill response procedures
  • Daily cleaning and maintenance of area, to include finishing equipment
  • Properly dispose of coating materials, cleaning, trash and scrap metal removal, and other production-support related jobs
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in an effective manner with customers, co-workers, clients and supervisors
  • Work in a safe and conscientious manner
  • Assist other employees in the performance of their duties as necessary
  • Perform other job duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

 

  • Related industrial coating/finishing experience and/or training
  • Meet medical eligibility to wear a tight-fit respirator as determined by a licensed health care professional
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision and as a team member
  • Read and speak English
  • Experience in structural steel operations (preferred)
  • HS Diploma (preferred)

Physical Demands
Regularly required to stand; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Employees assigned to tasks that require the use of a respirator must be physically able to perform the work while using the respirator. Accordingly, Canam Bridges has the responsibility of ensuring that employees are medically fit to tolerate the physical and psychological stress imposed by respirator use, as well as the physical stress originating from the job and workplace conditions.

  • Upon assignment, employees must be medically evaluated and found eligible to wear the respirator selected for their use prior to fit testing or first-time use of the respirator in the workplace. Medical eligibility is to be determined by a physician or other licensed health care professional. 
  • Consistent with OSHA requirements, persons with beards or long sideburns cannot be fit tested due to the inability to get a good facial seal. OSHA law prohibits individuals from wearing a tight-fitting respirator until the person is clean-shaven and fit-tested.
  • If a smoker, the employee will be required to refrain from smoking for at least one and a half hours prior to the fit test; this is because the sensitive equipment may detect particulate in exhaled breath, which may result in a false failure.

Work Environment
Routine exposure to steel fabrication environment and occasional outside weather conditions, excessive noise levels and is regularly exposed to vibration. Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes, vapors, or airborne particles. Occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.

This is a safety-sensitive position 
A safety-sensitive position has been defined as one where the employee’s responsibilities impact the health and safety of themselves, coworkers and/or the public (in this case the end-user of our product). All production and production support positions fall into this category.
