Job Description

SECOND SHIFT

SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL 

Lift, move, and position steel components for painting and shipping, performing such work consistent with corporate mission, values and departmental financial objectives. The Yard Equipment Operator has full operational knowledge of all primary pieces of equipment in the yard area.

Essential Functions:

  • Observe load hookup and determine safety of load handling.
  • Manipulate vehicle controls to regulate speed, direction and movement of materials.
  • Maintain traceability of materials using iPad operating system and hard copies.
  • Use hoisting attachments such as hook, sling, or bucket as load requires.
  • Clean and maintain vehicle mechanisms.
  • Inspect vehicle for defective parts and notify supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
  • Build and band loads for shipment.
  • Maintain control wand.
  • Engage directly in daily production operations and anticipate production problems.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor including, but not limited to, cleaning, trash/scrap removal, and other production related jobs.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating effectively with customers, co-workers, clients and supervisors.
  • Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of area.
  • Work in a safe and conscientious manner.

Qualifications

  • One to three months related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Able to pass any standard, recognized test required to perform crane operation.
  • Knowledgeable in trailer loading techniques.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision and as a team member.
  • Read and speak English.
  • Experience in structural steel operations (preferred).
  • HS Diploma (preferred).

Additional Information

Work Environment:
Work near moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. Regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. Exposed to the risk of flash burn of eyes and exposed skin burned. Noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

Physical Demands:
The ability to stand continuously is essential, with occasional walking and sitting. The nature of the position will require employee to perform a wide range of physical activities ranging from pushing and pulling, lifting and carrying heavy objects (60 lbs.) to climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending and handling.   Repetitive motions are required. Vision requirements include, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
