Job Description

The Maintenance Supervisor assumes the role of a technical leader and has overall responsibility for ensuring timely and quality repair of equipment and plant machinery to minimize downtime for safe and efficient operation. The role takes initiatives to ensure operation are in compliance with safety standards and environment practices.

  • Direct and lead maintenance staff in everyday scheduling, preventative maintenance, repair of all production equipment, and resolve equipment-related issues.
  • Maintain equipment and parts inventory using available resources to continuously minimize downtime and organize maintenance workshop.
  • Schedule and supervise major equipment repairs, overhauls and rebuilding to ensure that it is fully operational and safe to operate and within schedule requirements.
  • Ensure staff are well trained in health and standards and proper environmental practices within the plant and the Maintenance Department.
  • Monitor and report on the site's environmental conditions and practices and recommend actions for improvements and conformity.
  • Liaise with external contractors and government agencies/regulatory bodies as required.
  • Coordinate all phases of plant projects to ensure timely completion and cost-effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years maintenance management/supervisory experience in a steel-making or manufacturing facility.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills.
  • Familiarity with automated process technology, an asset.
  • Experience working in a computerized preventive maintenance program, an asset.
  • A demonstrated decision-maker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A demonstrated leader with excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills who easily interacts with others and is adept at leading and motivating a team.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel or Google Docs, Sheets, and email an asset.

Additional Information

Physical Demands: The nature of this position also requires the employee to perform a wide range of physical activities, ranging from pushing and pulling, lifting and carrying heavy objects (50-70lbs), to sitting, climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending and handling with repetitive hand and finger movements. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

Work Environment: The employee constantly works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to welding fumes and airborne particles. The employee may also be at risk of experiencing flash burns, skin burns, electrical shocks and high noise levels. Personal Protective Equipment must always be worn (including but not limited to: metatarsal safety boots, safety glasses, welding helmet, welding gloves/sleeves, earplugs and respiratory protection).
