Canam Group specializes in designing and fabricating metal components for the North American construction industry. The Company is active in the sectors of buildings and infrastructure. Fit and assemble structural framework and materials such as but not limited to: angle, "I" beam and other steel components, and perform such work consistent with corporate mission, values and departmental financial objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Must be able to perform with minimal assistance and possess the ability to produce at levels that meet production goals.

• Layout, position, align and fit together fabricated components of structural and bridge components according to shop drawings and prints to pertinent codes and specifications.

• Produce a product that meets recognized standards and customer expectations by maintaining quality procedures.

• Must possess basic layout skills.

• Must be able to accurately and neatly cut copes and various shapes using mechanical and manual cutting devices.

• Must be able to straighten and or correct components with oxy/fuel torches of varying designs.

• Must be able to tack weld in all positions utilizing multiple welding processes.

• Must be able to read metric and standard measuring devices.

• Be able to identify possible hazards and make necessary corrections.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor including but not limited to: cleaning, trash and scrap removal, and other production-related jobs.

• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional effective manner with customers, coworkers, clients and supervisors.

• Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of work area and shop.

• Work in a safe and conscientious manner. 

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

• One to three months related welding experience and/or training or equivalent or the combination of education and experience.

• Must possess basic reading and mathematical skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The ability to stand continuously is essential with occasional walking and sitting. The nature of the position will require the employee to perform a wide range of physical activities ranging from pushing and pulling, lifting and carrying heavy objects (50 lbs) to climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending and handling.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. Is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.  Exposed to the risk of flash burn of eyes and exposed skin burned. Heightened noise level in the work environment.

Canam Lean Innovation  

Support the Canam Lean Initiative through active engagement and participation in continuous process improvement projects based in Lean Manufacturing Principles.

Participate in training and continuing education events to develop a working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles and build a consistent “Lean Way of Thinking”.

Assist in the collection of data, participate in Kaizen workshops and contribute to the implementation of solutions, replicate successful improvements, share lessons learned and provide feedback on opportunities for change that will further the continuous improvement process.
