Job Description
The Associate Professor of Clinical Education (Oral Surgery) / Professor of Clinical Education (Oral Surgery) is a member of the School of Medicine and Dentistry’s academic team, and will lead the development and establishment of a specialty in Oral Surgery, while continuing to provide academic and clinical leadership of undergraduate oral surgery education. They will also undertake scholarly activity in clinical education and oral surgery, and perform appropriate administrative duties.
They will be a leading authority in their discipline and are expected to exercise a special responsibility in providing academic leadership and in fostering excellence in research, teaching, engagement and professional activities.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Dean of Dentistry and the Head of School to implement the School’s strategic priorities in learning and teaching and research. They will play a key role in advancing evidence-informed clinical education and strengthening research capability and output across the School.
To be appointed as Associate Professor level will demonstrate evidence of original and innovative contributions to the field, with a clear trajectory toward expanded national and international impact. They will show strong potential for leadership and active engagement in international research and scholarly collaboration
To be appointed as Professor level will have achieved sustained international recognition through original, innovative, and distinguished contributions to Oral Surgery and/or clinical education. This will be demonstrated through a strong record of leadership, high-impact scholarship, and ongoing influence in the field at an international level.
The level of appointment will depend on the qualifications and experience of the preferred candidate.
This is a full-time, continuing position based at the Griffith University Gold Coast. The position is also available as part-time, as a job-share arrangement (e.g. 0.6/0.4 FTE or 0.5FTE x 2) to accommodate clinical commitments.
As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations. Griffith University’s sites are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
Salary Range
The full time equivalent base salary for an Academic Associate Professor (Level D) will range from $172,686 - $190,248 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will range from $202,043 - $222,590 per annum.
The full time equivalent base salary will be Academic Professor (Level E) is $222,445 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be $260,261 per annum.
Qualifications
We are seeking applications from candidates who:
- Possess a doctoral or master’s qualification, or equivalent accreditation and standing, and/or professional fellowship.
- Hold current specialist registration or eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Demonstrate extensive experience in Oral Surgery, including a strong record of promoting student learning and contributing to curriculum development in clinical education.
We are also seeking candidates with the following desirable skills and expertise:
- Experience leading or contributing to the establishment, accreditation, or review of specialist postgraduate clinical training programs (e.g. DClinDent or specialty registrar programs).
- Evidence of professional recognition beyond the employing institution, including leadership roles within specialist colleges, professional societies, advisory groups, or involvement in guideline development.
- Demonstrated innovation in clinical education, including the development of advanced assessment methods, supervision frameworks, simulation-based learning, or technology-enhanced teaching.
- Experience supervising specialist trainees, postgraduate coursework students, or higher degree research candidates within a clinical academic or health service partnership setting.
- A doctoral qualification (PhD) or equivalent professional standing through advanced specialist clinical training, leadership in specialist education, and a sustained record of practice-based clinical scholarship.
