Job Description
Facilities Management at the Gold Coast campus is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and presentation of University buildings and grounds. Facilities Management oversees building maintenance, trades services, cleaning, waste management, grounds maintenance, minor refurbishments, and contractor coordination to ensure a safe, compliant, and functional campus environment.

The Building Trades Officer supports Facilities Management in the delivery of maintenance and refurbishment works across the campus. The position coordinates small to medium refurbishment projects, undertakes site inspections, and provides technical trade support to ensure works are completed safely, on time, and to University standards.
The role works closely with contractors, consultants, and University stakeholders to maintain high standards of workmanship, compliance, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, coordinate, and supervise small to medium building refurbishment, repair, and fit-out projects.
Manage and oversee contractors, ensuring compliance with WHS, University procedures, and project specifications.
Conduct site inspections, identify defects, and arrange corrective actions.
Review contractor quotations, scopes, and variation requests for accuracy and value.
Liaise with stakeholders to schedule works, minimise disruption, and maintain operational continuity.
Assist with asset data, condition assessments, and input to the CMMS.
Support delivery of programmed and reactive maintenance activities as directed by the Facilities Manager.
Promote and maintain a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
About you:
Trade qualification in Carpentry or related building trade (essential).
Certificate IV in Building and Construction or equivalent qualification (desirable).
Demonstrated experience in building maintenance, refurbishments, or minor construction works.
Sound knowledge of WHS, Building Code of Australia, and relevant Australian Standards.
Experience managing contractors and coordinating multiple projects concurrently.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Current driver’s licence.
Proficiency with MS Office and basic understanding of CMMS systems desirable.
What we can offer
This is a continuing position based Gold Coast. As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations.
HEW 5 Salary - Base range - $79,705.66 - $89,416.39 + 17% super. Full package range - $93,255.63 - $104,617.18.
