Job Description

The Griffith School of Engineering and Built Environment (EBE) offers a broad range of engineering programs and has an active research culture which has helped foster strong links with high schools and community groups plus key industries on a local, national and global level.

As Technical Officer, you’ll be responsible for providing specialist technical support to School staff and students primarily focused on the discipline of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the Brisbane South (Nathan) campus, under the guidance of the Senior Technical Officer. Here’s how you’ll make it matter:

  • Provide hands on electronic/electrical technical operations support to the assigned work area, including set up, service and dismantling of experimental apparatus, instrumentation and materials primarily for undergraduate laboratory practical classes. Pre-run experiments when required to ensure that effective operation and results are achieved. Assist with School and University promotional activities and events.
  • Collaborate with course conveners, academic and research staff as well as Higher Degree Research (HDR) students with equipment requirements and subsequently liaise with external agencies and suppliers to procure the relevant materials utilising the university financial system.
  • Demonstrate, where necessary, the relevant techniques in operating electronic and electrical equipment and instrumentation, whilst adhering to appropriate safety procedures.
  • Support academic staff in the set up and delivery of technical projects for small groups of students, dissertation projects and small workshop classes.
  • Use various computer software including design and prototyping software, Altium, SolidWorks, CAD/CAM, email, and the Microsoft Office suite.

You will also have:

  • A Degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of relevant trade experience, training and skills with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a position demonstrating similar skills. 
  • An Open Unrestricted QLD driver's license and a restricted electrical licence are desirable.

This is a continuing, full time position primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane South (Nathan). As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations.

Griffith University’s sites are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.

Salary Range
The full time equivalent base salary will be HEW Level 5 range $79,705 - $89,416 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $93,255 - $104,617 per annum.
