Griffith Criminology Institute
Griffith Criminology Institute (GCI) is a large, diverse, and high-performing group of scholars focused on crime and justice issues. Through collaboration and innovation our research is helping find solutions to universal problems. GCI hosts the Transforming Corrections to Transform Lives Centre. The Centre’s vision is to support mothers and their children to have safe, dignified, and fulfilling lives, breaking down intergenerational cycles of disadvantage and incarceration, by transforming systems and generating new knowledge for evidence-based programs.
Job Description
The Transforming Corrections to Transform Lives (TCTL) Centre is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant who will contribute to the Centre by providing assistance in field based and desktop research, and supporting the activities of the team. They will also provide some administrative assistance to the Director and senior Staff members of the TCTL Centre.
As a Research Assistant, you’ll take on complex local and global challenges, using your skills and experience to drive meaningful change. Here’s how you’ll make it matter:
- You will conduct field work and desktop research that contributes to the objectives of the Centre.
- You will assist with research duties such as preparation and monitoring of research measures, data collection, data storage, and preliminary analysis of data.
- You will draw on your existing training and further develop your skills undertaking literature searches and reviews, and drafting reports and scholarly articles in accordance with research protocols.
- You will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, coordinating and documenting meetings within the research team and between researchers and external stakeholders as required.
- You will support the objectives of the TCTL Centre, taking on other responsibilities commensurate with the expectations of the role, as required.

You will also have:
- a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours or equivalent qualifications and/or experience in a relevant field (e.g. criminology, psychology, policy and government systems, social work, etc).
- high level interpersonal and organisational skills and highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
- a demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision to meet competing deadlines and work effectively as a team member.
- Excellent attention to detail.
Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable; developmental or correctional criminology, psychology or social work, midwifery or public health, particularly with respect to criminal justice affected individuals or disadvantaged populations field work.
What we can offer
This is a fixed term (to 30 June 2027), full-time position primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane South (Mt Gravatt). As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations. Griffith University’s sites are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
Salary Range
The full-time base salary will be Research Assistant, Grade 2 in the range $82,278 - $86,526 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total package will be in the range $96,265 - $101,236 per annum.
