Job Description

The Australian Rivers Institute (ARI) was formed in 2006 and is one of Australia's largest university aquatic ecosystem research groups with globally recognised expertise in river, catchment and coastal ecosystems and the interaction with these systems in society.  ARI combines outstanding scholarship with making a significant contribution to society through providing knowledge and advice. ARI's talented researchers offer essential insights into the water cycle's linkages, interconnectedness, and interdependencies. 

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to join our dynamic research team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing innovative nitrogen fertilisers for diversified agricultural systems. This position involves conducting both glasshouse and field experiments to evaluate the effects of these novel fertilisers on plant performance, soil health, and environmental impacts. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to significant advancements in soil science and its applications in agriculture and environmental management.

Key responsibilities of this position include;

  • Design and conduct glasshouse and field experiments to meet the research objectives of the externally funded projects.
  • Collect, analyse, and interpret data from glasshouse and field experiments.
  • Develop and maintain a strong publication record in high-impact journals; manage and contribute to the preparation of publications, presentations, and research reports.
  • Assist in developing research proposals and support the mentoring and supervision of higher degree research candidates.

This is a fixed term (two years), full time position and will be primarily based at the Griffith University Nathan campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.

Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.

Salary Range
The full time equivalent base salary will be Research Fellow Grade 1 range $84,830 - $99,367 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $99,251 - $116,259 per annum.

Qualifications

To be successful in this position you will hold a PhD with a focus on Soil Science, Environmental Science, Agronomy, or relevant science-based discipline or equivalent qualifications and work experience.

You will also have:

  • Expertise in designing and conducting glasshouse and field experiments, including technical proficiency with relevant equipment.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in statistical analysis and data interpretation.
  • Proven track record of publications in high-impact journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prepare and deliver presentations and research reports and experience in writing research proposals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to effectively collaborate with research teams, participants, stakeholders and an ability to work independently and meet competing deadlines.
