Job Description

The School of Health Sciences and Social Work are changing how we think about allied health. One size does not fit all. We have adopted Precision Medicine to accelerate step-change advances in our key missions: musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and neurological fields, elite sport and human performance. We are harnessing our world-leading health and sports technologies capabilities, including digital twinning, robotics, artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and multi-modal medical imaging to drive better diagnostics and optimise human and sports performance. We are accelerating earlier and targeted interventions and developing safer, better and more cost-effective allied health and rehabilitation therapies.

Our growing ecosystem brings together allied health, engineering, and science alongside industry partners to strengthen medical and rehabilitation device innovation to bring new products and services to global markets. In parallel, we recognise the need to train and develop the next generation of allied health professionals to adopt and practice precision paradigms in a broader and inclusive health and wellbeing context. In response, we are developing new, innovative, industry-informed, co-designed training programs to meet current and future workforce needs.

The School is known for innovation and excellence in interdisciplinary research, health education, and translation to clinical practice. The School is recognised as a national leader in Disability and Rehabilitation research and supports an extensive program of cross-disciplinary research aligned with flagship University Research Beacons, Centres and Institutes (including The Griffith Centre of Biomedical and Rehabilitation Engineering (GCORE) and the Advanced Design and Prototyping Technologies Institute (ADaPT)). Our Health Clinics offer exercise physiology, dietetics, physiotherapy, social work and speech pathology clinical services to the public as well as supporting research translation. We strongly focus on innovation, interdisciplinarity, translation and impact, and we contribute to a wide range of partnerships and engagements with clinical, government, NGO, industry and community stakeholders.

The Opportunity
The School is seeking to appoint experts and disrupters to Lecturer and Senior Lecturer positions in priority areas of allied health (all disciplines), biomedical engineering, biorheology and exercise science to join our bold vision for Precision Rehabilitation and Human Performance.

Successful applicants will contribute to a paradigm shift from state-of-the-art stratified care towards ultra-personalised allied-health rehabilitation and training to improve and augment human and sports performance, irrespective of an individual’s (dis)ability, thus enabling inclusive participation in family, community, work, and sport. You will be immersed in an exceptional team science and interdisciplinary research environment underpinned by established and well-funded ties with industry and affiliated hospitals and health providers in South-East Queensland. We are recruiting for a Senior Lecturer in Biorheology:

  • Join Australia’s leading biorheology team that incorporates multi-scale approaches to mechanobiology and fluid dynamics with applications in precision medical technologies and cardiometabolic disorders. We seek a future leader from a science or engineering background who thrives in team science and interdisciplinary environments. Your disruptive research will leverage one of the world’s best-equipped facilities, co-located with a research hospital and innovation park and well-supported by nationally-competitive funding. Your thirst to lead innovative programs will contribute to long-established collaborations with field leaders and clinical partners and align with our extensive partnerships with multinational developers of cardiac assist devices and in vitro diagnostics.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach across a range of courses within the School and supervise HDR students to strengthen the research-teaching nexus. You will contribute to new curricula development in medical technologies and precision rehabilitation, sport and human performance for postgraduate and industry markets, including microcredentials.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have following qualifications and experience:

  • The successful candidate must hold a relevant PhD (or equivalent) in addition to the following:

At Senior Lecturer, Level C:

  • Strong evidence of research performance and success in attracting external research funding, consistent with discipline benchmarks.
  • Strong track record (relative to opportunity) in generating high-quality original outputs and national research impacts.
  • Demonstrable evidence of contributing to and developing new research collaborations.
  • A compelling vision for how they will grow their own research program within our strategic approach to Precision Rehabilitation and Human Performance whilst contributing to the broader objectives of the school and university.
  • Strong experience in clinical and industry or partnerships will be highly valued.
  • Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and course development and HDR supervision. CPD and microcredential experience will be well regarded. 
  • Demonstrable evidence of work to QMS and GLP/GMP and regulatory requirements (where required).
  • Experience in clinical and especially industry partnerships will be highly valued.
  • Clear vision for how your expertise will lead to improved research esteem of the university and translatable outcomes in industry and/or clinical pathways.

What we can offer
This is a continuing, full time, Senior Lecturer, Level C position based at the Griffith University Gold Coast campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.

The full time equivalent base salary for Senior Lecturer, Level C will be $128,802 - $148,520 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $150,698 - $173,768 per annum.
