Exotics Veterinarian - AEC Mount Waverley

  • Full-time

Company Description

Help Build and Lead an Exciting Exotics Service Within One of Melbourne's Leading Emergency Hospitals

Are you an experienced Exotic Veterinarian looking for the opportunity to shape something from the ground up while being supported by a highly skilled emergency and critical care team?

AEC Mount Waverley is seeking a passionate veterinarian with exotics experience to establish and grow our dedicated Exotics Department. This is a unique opportunity to combine your clinical expertise with genuine influence, helping define the future of exotic animal medicine within a well-established 24/7 emergency & critical case hospital.

Why AEC Mount Waverley?

AEC Mount Waverley has been providing exceptional emergency veterinary care to Melbourne's eastern suburbs for decades. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the hospital is trusted by local veterinarians and pet owners alike to provide high-quality emergency and critical care when it matters most. The hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic capabilities, including imaging, laboratory services, ultrasound, endoscopy, isolation facilities, and comprehensive emergency care resources, allowing our teams to deliver outstanding patient outcomes.

Our collaborative team of veterinarians and nurses work together in a fast-paced but highly supportive environment where patient care, professional growth, and teamwork are at the centre of everything we do.

A Rare Opportunity to Shape the Future of Exotics Care

This is more than an Exotics Veterinarian role. AEC Mount Waverley is building Melbourne's first dedicated after-hours exotics service, and we're looking for someone who wants to play a key role in bringing that vision to life.

You'll have the opportunity to help shape the service, influence clinical protocols and equipment purchases, build referral networks, and contribute to the future direction of exotics care within our hospital.

Supported for Success & A Diverse Caseload

While the service is growing, our vets will be able to support ongoing care for any exotic patient as well as help support you with working within an emergency and critical care setting along with passionate nursing staff with exotics experience, and access to ongoing emergency medicine training.

We've already invested in dedicated exotics housing and are committed to growing the service further.  As the exotics caseload grows, you'll enjoy the opportunity to build and develop the service while maintaining a varied workload. The role will also include companion animal emergency work, making it ideal for veterinarians who have the exotics expertise but flexible to work within small animal cases and emergency medicine.

Flexible Rostering

  • Full-time preferred, with near full-time part-time applicants encouraged to apply
  • 4 or 5-day work week options
  • Predominantly Friday to Monday roster
  • Afternoon and evening shifts
  • Strong support from experienced ECC veterinarians and nurses

This is a unique opportunity to build something special while being supported by one of Australia's most established emergency veterinary networks.

What We're Looking For

  • A veterinarian with an average of two years’ experience managing exotic species
  • A passion for delivering exceptional patient care
  • A collaborative team player who enjoys working in an emergency environment
  • A veterinarian excited by the challenge of growing and developing a service
  • AVBC-accredited qualification

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to build and shape a dedicated exotics service as it expands to influence future recruitment and mentor team members.
  • Future leadership and team development to oversee the growing department.
  • Competitive remuneration including additional penalty rates for applicable evening and weekend shifts
  • Continuing education allowance and paid leave
  • Access to Greencross professional development networks
