Job Description

The Modeling and Simulation System Administrator reports to and receives work direction derivatives from the Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) and Task Order Manager. The M&S SysAd will perform the following duties:

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide network engineering and systems administration support to the BSCs and CASTs such as: planning, installation, operation, and maintenance to support day‐to‐day operations and training events and exercises .
  • Create (new) or modify (existing), and maintain operations, maintenance, installation, and training instructions for BSC/CAST networks that support daily operations and training events and exercises.
  • Develop and maintain cross‐boundary network solutions (e.g., firewalls, access control lists, etc.) between multiple networks or enclaves of various Mission Assurance Categories (MAC) and classification levels to enable the controlled interconnection of training systems, experimental systems, domain services, or coalition partners with BSC/CAST networks.
  • Monitor logs for firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
  • Install, configure, optimize, maintain and operate network servers, hubs, routers, and switches ensuring they comply with security policy, procedures, and technical requirements.
  • Develop and implement access control lists on routers, firewalls, and other network devices.
  • Manage accounts, network rights, and access to BSC/CAST systems and equipment.
  • Provide end-user IT support for all BSC/CAST operating systems, peripherals, and applications.
  • Design, maintain and troubleshoot enterprise storage area network systems to support day‐to‐day operations and training events and exercises.
  • Install, test, maintain, and upgrade network operating systems software and hardware.
  • Perform IT related customer support functions including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance, and/or training, in response to customer requirements.
  • Research and provide recommendations for audio visual, computer, computer network infrastructure equipment, and supporting training technology and peripheral equipment to support the BSC/CAST training environment.
  • Design, install, operate and maintain network boundary defense, monitoring tools, and firewalls on and between different security or network enclaves.

Qualifications

Education

  • DoD 8570.1-M IAT Level II or higher required – Current DoD approved IA baseline certification (CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, SSCP); a minimum of one valid Computing Environment (CE)/Operating System (OS) Certificate (i.e. MS Windows Server 2012 R2 Cert, MS Windows 10 cert, a VMware 6.0 Cert); and at least 3 years in IA technology or a related area.

Experience

  • At least three years of experience in IT, which should include successful experience as an enterprise team member or lead.
  • Well versed in USMC and DoD cybersecurity compliancy, instructions, policies and regulations.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, and SharePoint.
  • Documented experience and solid understanding of DoD enterprise network policies with a strong security mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with others and senior management.
  • Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. 
  • Able to design and write clear communications and present training programs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational, planning and prioritization skills

Additional Information

 

  • Ability to obtain or have a security clearance
  • Must meet DoD 8570.1‐M Information Assurance workforce program requirements for Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II or higher.
  • Must possess and maintain training and certifications sufficient to be granted privileged access to Marine Corps information technology (IT) and information systems (IS) through documented completion of required training and certification.
  • Required to sit for extended periods of time and maintain focus.
  • May require CONUS and OCONUS travel for up to three weeks at a time (or longer).
  • Required to sit for extended periods of time and maintain focus
  • Daily travel in the local area during the workday (including the use of a personal vehicle).
  • Extended work days and weekend work may be required.
  • Ability to work from a remote location.
